What a year for Indian cinema. We have already been treated to a gem called Lagaan and now Dil chahta hai. This is one of the classiest movie I have ever seen.I have never been impressed by a movie so much as I have been with D.C.H. The film is brilliant in all aspects be it direction, screenplay, music, acting, dialouges and cinematography. I am bowled over by the movie and wanna express how much I loved it through my review.
STORY:The story revolves around the three friends Aakash(Aamir khan), Sameer(Saif ali khan) and Sid (Akshaye khanna) and how they fall in love and how they face the hardships. Each one of them thinks differantly and has a differant concept of love. Aakash is quite a insensitive guy and is a incorrigable flirt who does not believe in the existance of love, Sameer is a confused but happy-go lucky type of a guy who falls in love with every girl he meets whereas Sid is a more quiet, mature and sensible guy who believes in love and expresses his love and thoughts through his paintings.
Sid falls in love with Tara jaiswal (Dimple Kapadia) who is a divorcee and a mother. One night when Sid tells his friends about his love for Tara, Aakash reacts negatively and mistooks his love for infatuation.Sid slaps Aakash for making fun of his feelings. The friendship btw Sid and Aakash ends there and everyone parts way. Aakash goes to Sydney to look after his dads buisness and there he meets Shalini (Preity zinta) and eventually falls in love with her. Meanwhile Sameer also finds his dream girl in Pooja (Sonali kulkarni). When Aakash realises the magic of true love he understands Sids feelings and apologises to him and all get together again.
DIRECTION\DIALOUGES:
What a impressive debut by Farhan Akhtar.I am amazed by Farhans talent coz he is so young and shows sparks of brilliance in his very first attempt. He has completed the film in 108 days at a stretch but not once does he falter in any department which shows that he is very clear with what he wants and there is no confusion in his mind. Technically also the film is brilliant. Id like to mention in particular, the dialogues written by Farhan. I havent seen such classy and intelligent humour in a hindi film. The dialouges are subtle and very well written with the characters in mind. Farhan seems to have excelled in all departments. He is damn talented and is here to stay.
ACTING:Well I cannot pick a single actor coz everyone has acted wonderfully well .The characters are well defined and completely believable. The film has lots of funny moments but not once do the actors overact which is commendable. Akshaye is brilliant, Saif is adorable and Aamir, well what do I say for this guy? He is too good to be true. These three have also sported a new look and for once they look more hot and good looking than the heroines. Preity is looking gorgeous with her new hair-do and has acted quite well. Sonali is impressive in her smalll role and there is a fine display of acting by Dimple too. I loved Suhasi mullay(Sids mother), Preitys uncle(dunno his name)and Subodhs(he was downright funny)acting too.
MUSIC:The music by Shankar, Loy and Ehsaan is awesome and I love it.It is very funky and has got lots of freshness and energy. All the songs are wonderfully written(Javed akhtar)and composed.I love all the songs but in particular Jaane kyon, D.C.H(Reprise)and Koi kahe kehte rahe(this song is a blast).
SONG PICTURISATION:Ild like to mention this in particular coz I havent seen such beautifully and innovatively picturised songs. The songs gel so well with the film.Whether it is the title song D.C.H or woh ladki hain kahan(it is so funny esp the wing fluttering)or the stark Tanhayee, each is a gem and a treat to watch and not to forget the cinematography by Ravi K Chandara which is mindblowing. Also the chemistry btw the actors which is so real makes the songs stand out.
D.C.H is is a superb entertainer and I loved the film and anybody who enjoys good, clean and quality cinema will love it too.Farhan has changed the standard of Hindi films and I wish we have more directors like him, Mansoor khan, Ashutosh.G (Lagaan) and John Mathew Mathan (Sarfarosh)and the Hindi cinema will start looking more sensible and real like before. And please no more craps from the overrated Aditya chopra, Karan johar, Rakesh roshan and Subhash ghai (who made a coke commercial in name of a film).
