Relationships - different views

Dil Kabaddi is one of those movies that belongs to the "Pyar Ke Side Effects" genre. It aims to narrate different kinds of relationships in parallel, interlaced with a lot of comedy.

To sum up the stories,

Story 1: Soha and Irrfan are breaking up due to their incompatibility and Irrfan’s philandering ways. Irrfan launched into a fetish-filled affair with Payal and enjoys it for a while. However, he realizes the shallowness of this relationship and moves back with Soha.

Story 2: Konkona and Rahul Bose are friends of Soha and Irrfan. Konkona is described by her ex-boyfriend as passive-aggressive, i.e. she uses a very subdued approach to get her way. Their relationship suffers due to each other’s complexities and affairs.

Around these 2 main tracks are woven tracks of Rahul Khanna’s love story with Soha and then Konkona, Rahul Bose’ infatuation with a student and the Irrfan-Payal fling.

The movie is a breeze for one-time viewing. The director’s sincere intent sees the movie through its bad parts as well. The acting is pretty good, except for Irrfan. He just hams his way out of the movie and seems very uninterested. Soha, Konkona and Rahul Bose are perfectly at home with their characters and do a good job.

Screenplay could’ve been tighter. Editing is clearly bad, with one solitary song coming up in the movie which could’ve been chopped.

All in all, an entertainer. But - no kids please!
