Title : An average version of ’’Dil Chahta hai’’!
Review : ’’Dil Kya Chaahta hai’’ is a half-hour weekly series on Star One telecast every thursday on the 9:00 pm slot.
It is an older version of the urban-hit movie ’’Dil Chaahta Hai’’ which concentrates on the life of four friends - Ram , a rich corporate big shot- Raghu- an on and off successful theatre artist- Aakash, a successful and happening radio jockey- nitin who is stuck in a normal 9 to 5 job. All four of them come from different backgrounds and raghu is the only one who is married to madhvi, a gorgeous upcoming PR official who is two years older to him and is much more mature than him.
Ram is totally a black-ink blot on his pious name because he is a casanova obsessed with his dog! Yet, he has a painful past and wasn’t lucky in love.Nitin is the mosty decent guy amongst them all who has a mother hen mom who keeps getting antique pieces for her son to choose and marry.He is cute but prefers to do a take-off on the typical oiled-bespectacled-oiled-hair-plain-peter.Aakash, on the other hand is a dude who tries hard to act cool and seems to be developing feelings for the very intelligent and pretty Ira, his colleague at Radio City.He is irritating at times but basically, he is absolutely lovable.
All four of them are as different as chalk and cheese but their male-bonding is endearing and they meet every evening at their fave pub and share their laughter and tears. The show tries to bring out the human-being behind the garb of that classic manhood or the urban metrosexual.What are men like when they are not with women? Do they behave differently?Do they react differently?Are they as strong as their archetypal image suggests?These are some of the questions that the show tries to find answers for.
Now, does it succeed? Yes and no. The only actor who fits the character of the serial and the typical confused urban metrosexual in this serial is Aakash, he is really good and reminds you a lot of the DCH guys.Sameer Soni as the flirtatious Ram just doesn’t fit though he handles the sensitive side of him quite well.Someone younger and more happening was needed.
Nitin is ok, u feel like passing a perfumed handkerchief to this rabbit-in-distress but still, he doesn’t fit the character of the serial.Raghu’s character is the most aggressively cute of all and the actor has done a fair job but he has a very serious and intense persona which is not needed at all here. Rest of the cast is really good. watching aakash-ira coolly and sweetly fight the gender wars is a lot of fun. All four of them need love as a balancing factor in their lives. Raghu’s expectations from Madhvi are much higher than what she can provide or so it seems.Basically, everyone’s need here is to find an anchor for an entire lifetime. Dil yahi chaahata hai.
Overall, DKCH is 6/10 and is average timepass.It is definitely not one of Star One’s best shows and I wouldn’t recommend it as a must-watch.
