Direct Dil Se
Am writing this review just coz I wanted a review on this movie very badly in my account. Couldnt help writing on this one.
It was a film I truely relished on when all the guys in my fellow seats seemed as if they had just come out of a police trial room. I wondered a lot, why did these guyz get tortured for so much.
Let me tell those who have missed this flick just coz it was a flop. It is a movie that remains in ur mind for weeks or let me say months after u have watched it.
The movie starts with a cop checking a taxi at a checkpost. Its raining cats n dogs. A guy is in a hurry to reach the station. When he reaches there, he notices there is no one on the platform other than someone wrapped in a blanket. The boy asks for a cigarette. No answer. Then he asks for a matchbox. No answer. The rains get heavier. A strong wind gustles in and blows off the blanket from the strangers head. It happens to be a pretty girl with innocent eyes. The guy cannot help staring at her. He goes near. He appologizes for his remarks. Then asks if he can do anything for her. He explains anything as bringing down the stars for her, blah blah blah................... A soft voice speaks out, A cup of tea. The guy seems amazed. He runs towards a tea stall. The owner is fast asleep. He gets him up n moving to prepare two cuttings for himself and his date. He rushes towards the girl with the two glasses, but to his despair finds her boarding the train with two men. There eyes meet. Drops of rain fall in the glasses as he holds them. He sips from one of the glasses as the rains continue to drip in the glasses.
Well atleast I was totally impressed by what I was watching. As the movie proceeds we find out that SRK works for AIR. He is keen on getting an interview from terrorists and gets it too. The interview scene is truely rivetting. Then the film blossoms in a tale of passion with a backdrop of terrorism. So thats it.
The film has been handled according to its name. Direct Dil Se. The film shows the passion the director has for the plot he is handling. Many of the scenes catch ur attention as they r followed by another. The most wonderful scene is the starting scene which I have just explained. Then the one where SRK is confronted by three unknown guyz who call themselves Manishas brothers. Then the fight scene which follows is absolutely raw. Each of the scenes where SRK gets a glimpse of Manisha in unexpected surroundings. The scene which marks the entry of Preity Zinta. The scene where she asks SRK What do I do with these wedding cards. Its mind blowing. The scenes where the CBI officers r shown investigating. Mainly the one in which SRK is questioned. The scene where cops inject SRK with sleeping drugs and SRK flees. He runs on the road towards the Red Fort and on the way trying to keep himself awake. This and many more.
On the acting front, ShahRukh Khan is terrific. Be it the passion he has to deliver in his voice or the fear he has to show on his face. He is the king. Manisha is brilliant in her role of a terrorist. Guyz the innocence on her face gives me a kick. It kills. Preity Zinta made a debut in this movie. But u never figure her out as a debutante.
Technically one of the best movies ever made. The cinematography is excellent capturing Laddakh as honestly as Kerala. What less can u get from someone known as Santosh Sivan. The songs get u by ur nerves. They r brilliant. After all Gulzar is the lyricist and to respect his lyrics A.R. Reheman leaves no stones unturned.
This is the rightful movie to be called a masterpiece. But am sorry Mr. Mani Ratnam, we dun have the sense of watching good movies.
