All Style no substance

When we think of Yash Chopra , we think of his evergreen classics. His Lamhe was a poetry in motion. With the same expectation I went to see Dil to Pagal Hain long time back when it was released.

The Story : You must be joking. Its the same drab triangle or is it quadrangle. The characters is not from this world. There is no wealth or caste or class strife here(which again was shown in so many movies). Here everyone is well off . So what do we have. A Dance drama company(convenient to put so many songs) whose director Rahul(Shahrukh Khan) and his team stage dance drama which is very famous in Mumbai (or wherever it is). The heroine of all his plays Karisma Kapoor is in love with hi. But he considers her a friend. Khan is in the process of making a new movie Maya for which he has visualized a dreamy beauty. Karisma Kapoor rehearses for it and very conveniently falls and is hospitalized so that Madam Dixit can step into her shoes and love blossoms between Dixit and Khan. But Yash Chopra has to stress it for 3 hours..After all how much of music can you put. Enter Mr Akshay Kumar and Madhuri has to marry him because she is indebted to him and his parents. Phew after reels of sobbing and sacrifices alls well that ends well..

Phew Finally the movie is over.

All said the movie has some moments of mirth . But those are few and far. The cinematography by Manmohan Singh is excellent. Music by Uttam Singh is very good. Dances are also another plus point. And average performance by the lead cast. Khan is suitable for these kinds of roles and does his part of well. Madhuri acts well but is old for the part. She would have suited the role completely had she done it some 5 years ago. But she dances well and gives the required expressions( I am not a big fan of hers though) . karisma is the scene stealer with a role which is short by meaty than both the other characters. Akshay Kumay is fine.

The dialogues credited to Mr. Aditya Chopra are BAD. The relation shown for valentines day is so hilariously silly I burst out laughing the time I heard it. The lines are cliche and the ’’woh batayega ’’ line is silly. So is the ganapathy sequence.

Its a wonder this film got so many awards
