DSP is one of the 3 pillars of the House of Shaw Wallace(Royal Challenge -The Classy type, DSP -Mr.Public type and Haywards -the much hypedJosh type!). So much so that the omnipotent(so HE thinks!!)Vijay Mallya had tried tooth and nail to acquire these brands. For the records, RC has almost 70% of the premium whiskey market in India while DSP has grown almost 200% in the last five years to reach the number one spot in sales in ordinary(if I might say so!) whiskey market in India. Ofcourse the Haywards beer cannot hold a candle to the UB flagship King Fisher though it too has its own loyal cleintele.
DSP Black was introduced soemtime late in the 90s to give the brand a wee bit of the aristocratic look. But to me there is absolutely no difference in DSP and DSP Black except in the looks and will refer to both of them as DSP only in this review.
So coming down to brass tacks -- do I recommend this brand? An absolute NO!! Herz why :
a) taste -- pure absolute spirit! I wonder why people would be interested in drinking methylated spirit!! :D
b) strength -- too strong(as expected!!)hits u too hard and hits u bad!! a definite recipe for a hangover.
Now I think I understand why such strong drinks (including strong beers) do so well in India. Its just because most of the guyz who drink, I think drink to get a fast kick!(no room for the ...ahista, ahista chadta nasha ... of 1942-A Love Story fame!!).Some people might call it value for money but I guess for me that is definitely not the reason why anybody should drink at all!!
:)
anyway to each his own poison!! cheers!
