In this enforcement period of CAS by the Government we decided and opted for DishTV as our prefered choice. I wont be able to comment whether DishTV is better or TataSky as I have not seen the performance of TataSky. So if any one could possibly compare the quality offered by both the service provider and write it up in there next review, would be appreciated.
I would like to quickly point out my initial findings with DishTV and reason for choosing the Brand:
After we took the decision for DTH instead of CAS, I went to the site of both the service provider in the field and filled up there customer contact form available at there site. DishTV was prompt to response and take the lead, still no say from TataSky. On the very day we placed the order with DishTV that is on 29/12/2006.
Installation and activation of the channel package opted for were done on the next day that is 30/12/2006.
Picture quality and reception is good atleast far ahead than cable operators.
Reception quality may suffer if the sky is not clear. In winter due to fog the quality dips somewhat it seems.
Manual offered for operating the STB(Set Top Box) with the remote does not match at all with the installed software on the STB. Found it difficult to fathom and get used to it. Options actually available are less as mentioned in the manual.
To understand the operation of the present software loaded on the STB either you have to watch there channel called DishTV interactive or Hit and Trial after reading the manual and gaining some momentum from it.
*7. One of the major drawback that I encountered is that we cannot programme our prefered channel as per our wish on the remote button. For eg: if you would like that SONY TV be the channel placed on number 1 of your remote so that whenever you wish to see Sony you just press 1 and get access to it is not possible.
The last point is the most irritating one for elderly people who find it difficult to browse through the channels. They are used to earlier method. Here in this case you have to prepare a chart and keep so that you can possibly go to your preffered channel by keying in its number.
These are my initial findings do let me know how did you find my review.
Thanks and Regards,
