Wish karo par DISH ko NA NA karo….

All the people of the next generation try to find the most convenient solution to their day-to-day’s need. Be it buying household items or vegetables, garments or electronics, people now-a-days prefer to go to super stores or malls for purchasing them as they get everything under one roof. More than the price, people see convenience of the whole buying experience. And I am NO exception. Recently about 10-12 days back I bought a DISH TV Set Top Box(VC no. 015 0535 5345-7 taken on 21st June, 2008) so that I could watch various channels of interest at any time comfortably at home.

I decided to go for DTH connection instead of a local cable connection because my job requires me to change my city quite often and DTH seemed to be the only option suitable in my situation. Lured by the promotions involving SRK and the scheme about a free set top box with a new connection from DISH TV, I immediately decided to take it without even considering TATA Sky which is its competitor. The only faith behind this decision was that in today’s competitive world, if a company has to survive and continue drawing more customers towards it then they have to necessarily provide good services as the product distinction isn’t much. BUT my assumption went completely wrong. Since the time I have purchased DISH TV set top box, I have been calling and writing mails to their customer care and calling their distributor to come to my house for the installation but nobody even bothers to reverts back to my complaint(No. 14116193 & 14163930).

Atlast fed-up with following up with DISH TV’s customer care, I even threatened to approach consumer court but of no use. I have realized that I have wasted my hard earned money by taking its set top box so there is no point calling them or writing any more mail to them. I just want to appeal to everyone who is thinking of taking DTH connection that “Wish karo par DISH ko NA NA karo….”. Well I hope Subhash Chandra and Shah Rukh Khan are listening and stop fooling people around for filling-up their pockets.

The SAGA CONTINUES EVEN AFTER SIX MONTHS: My experiences after six months of using Dish TV:

Its been six months since I’m using Dish TV. After sharing my initial experience with Dish TV, I never wanted to even think about this mistake of mine which I have made by choosing Dish TV over others but circumstances have forced me to share some of their latest gimmicks with all the readers.

I had selected their Maxi package which includes all the channels. I paid for full one year contract and inreturn I also received a their free 65 movie on-demand package as a part of the overall package. Now recently what they have done is, of all the on-demand channels, only one shows a movie which comes under the free movie package and for remaining channels you have to pay either Rs 75 or Rs 100. I was wondering how can they change this after all I have already paid for the whole 1 year. But this wasn’t enough. Subsequently they dropped 3 of the channels which I used to watch the most. They include CNN-IBN, CNBC Awaaz and CNBC TV 18. I spoke to dish TV customer care and complained about this but they said there has been a change in corporate policy and they are helpless. Now I have to pay additional per month if I want these channels to continue. I said forget it I don’t want to pay anything over and above what I paid initially as changing my plan without my consent is completely illegal. However I didn’t want to get into any legal hassle at this stage.

Yesterday I received another sms from dish TV saying that they are dropping two more channels viz. Times Now and Zoom from my package and if I want them to continue then I have to pay Rs 25 extra per month. I really don’t understand who gives them the authority to drop any of the channels from my package and for which I have already paid.

This is not all there are other things which I think are much better in other DTH services. They are:

  1. In Dish TV it takes over a second to shift channel while in others it is instantaneous.(I think they are probably using 386 processor).

  2. Pic pauses or distort at times.(Observed in some channels).

  3. Initially it doesn’t show or shows wrong program for various channels. The subsequently it updates. As in you don’t get the right picture of the program being aired on a particular channel and you actually have to wait for it to update.

  4. The synopsis of most of the movies are missing. Its just shows Featured English Movie.

  5. If you want to see channels by their category say for examples you want to view all the news channels then it is not possible with Dish TV. Instead it just shows various category news aired on Zee News or Zee Business only.

  6. Program Alert thing doesn’t work.

Atlast I have just decided to continue with this crappy box for some time till it expires and then shift to TATA Sky or Bharti Airtel. I made a mistake by choosing a company based on the luring initial packages which they offered but after my experience with Dish TV I think the most important thing to consider when choosing a company is how ethical are the companies and how is their attitude towards customer service. Then comes the package offers etc.

I only request to you is "STAY AWAY FROM DISH TV IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR TV VIEWING A PLEASURE".

ATLAST, I have shifted to Airtel DTH.

Recently, about 3 months back, I bought a new Airtel DTH after having terrible experience with Dish TV. The clarity and quality is pretty good. Atleast I’m getting what was committed to me. The only issue so far I faced, when I bought this connection I made a payment of Rs 2600/- for a 1 year connection whereas the executive gave be activation and recharge coupon worth Rs. 2500/- only. It became difficult to trace the executive since they gave me a general customer care number. At that time I didn’t bother to check it and lost that 100 Rs this way. Thats partly my mistake too.
