I Strongly recommend you NOT to buy DishTV because it is not worth it.
To put it short, you can go for DishTV if and only if.
1) Cash is not a constraint for you
2) You will not get mad even if you face the most inefficient and arrogant Customer
Care.
3) You love to hear Shahrukh Khan over and over again each time you try to
contact them.
4) You do not have access to cable TV.
Seriously, if you are thinking of going for DishTV, THINK AGAIN. I
STRONGLY recommend you NOT to go for it, at least another 3 to 4 years, unless
you don’t have access to CableTV. It will be too costly and moreover too
much headache, not to mention your waste of time over the phone and associated
phone bills. Mind you, I am speaking on my experience. a very BAD
one.
All these when you have all the channels available for about 50% of its cost at
no real initial investment. + no hassles of recharging.
A monthly saving of more than 150 Rs directly and more savings in terms of
phone bills, time and peace of mind. Would you mind making a saving of
1500+ in an year. Save that and treat yourself!
I have been a DishTV Customer from June ‘07(7 Months now) and I had quiet a
few complaints. None of those were addressed by them.
*Biggest Problem of DishTV is its customer care:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-*
You might think, how does it matter. It matters a lot. This was the
single most important reason that I took time off my hectic schedule to spend
some time for this post. I do not want others to go though tae same
cycle. At least you go for it knowing the issue.
Each month you make a recharge, you have to make n number of calls to get it
activated. The delay in getting this means you are loosing money
everyday. To make the matters worse they have one the most inefficient
systems. They just don’t care for you. Each executive will have a
different take on each matter. You have to be really lucky and patient to
get to one in the first place. But even more so, to get a person who can
communicate properly. I really don’t know what was the criteria of
selecting those people and what kind of training they have got about their
system(if there is one!).
They gave a plan and charged me for another plan. Completely onesided, wrong and cheating attitude. I am thinking about the options of giving a case, althogh I dont know how I can provide a proof for it.
Recharging each time became a real headache!
*It is over priced and they keep increasing that also:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=*
Today(31st Dec 2007) if
you have to get all general channels in south India,
you have to pay 350/- per month. Another aspect was that if you are in North
India, the same package will be 300/-. If you want channels
like DW-TV then you have to pay more. Plus the initial investment that you
make, 90% of which is non-returnable.
Compare this with normal Cable which is priced between 180Rs to 250Rs depending
on the place you are in. You get all channels – Sun, Zee or Star and in may
cases, channels like DW-TV as well. All these without any loss of time,
loss money over phone calls or loss of peace-of-mind.
If you think you are paying more for the additional value that you get, I would
say you are wrong. I will come to the aspect of the so called
"Additional Benefits" later.
*Problems due to Rain and Thunder:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=*
This is a technology issue but nonetheless you are the ultimate looser. The
technology is such that during heavy rain and thunder, the DishTV will not
function at all. During monsoon, this will become a real nuisance.
Compare that with Cable TV and have one more strong reason not to go for
DishTV.
I bought DishTV knowing this problem. But I was willing to take that for
a better service. But I was wrong. I was completely wrong.
Service is the worst part of the whole package and you have to pay more from
your pocket to get that Bad service.
*So called benefits of DishTV:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-*
It’s true that there are some additional features for DishTV. But you
have to see the value of these in perspective.
First is the Movie on Demand. DishTV has about 5 channels where
they will be showing certain movies. If you want to see that, then can
opt for it at 50Rs per movie. But it is not as colorful as it may
sound. Most of the movies are outdated ones. Movies like MunnaBhai
MBBS were the recent movies. For 50/-. Consider that against the latest
movies like “Jab We Met”(launched recently) available on Moserbear Genuine
CD/DVD for just 35Rs. I was misled during purchase that I can watch any
latest movie that I would like to, for 50 Rs. You can watch only some
listed movies which mostly will not be a recent launch. I don’t think
that this option provides any real value. You may watch 1 or 2 movies in
an year!
Clarity is another aspect. I do agree that the clarity of audio
and video are very good. But these days you have got some cable operators
providing Digital Channels as well. But in general you have better clarity on
DishTV.
Games: Not worth even a mentioning.
Program Listing: This is another good aspect of DishTV. For
most channels you can see the list of programs. For eg., if you go to
Star Movies, you can instantly see the name of the movie or which is the next
one. That’s a nice feature.
Program Alert**: This is another nice feature. You can set one
time or repetitive alerts for a channel. So there are less chances of
missing your favorite program.
I had my friends discouraging me when I went for DishTV. But at that
point, I thought that, although it was expensive than the CableTV, I thought
that I would get more value from it. But 6 months down the line DishTV
has proved me wrong categorically. Its not only that there service no better
than Cable, it much worse and that too at a higher cost.
Pros : Clarity, Program Listing and Program Alert.
Cons : Inefficient Service, Headache of recharging, Worst
Customer Care, Disrupted service during Rain and Thunder and all at a much higher
cost.*
Please note that I have compared DishTV with the normal Cable TV, both from my
experience.
Just because Shahrukh Khan says that you are a dump if you don’t go for DishTV,
do not buy DishTV. Shahrukh Khan is paid to say that.
I also know that the promoters of DishTV are siting on huge cash to outweigh
the critisisms like mine and thats why they dont care. But by this if I
can help a couple of people to rethink and take a informed decision, then
this is worth I guess. Let me know.
Cons outweigh the pro.s so heavily.
