If you are one of those planning to chuck out your local cable guy and subscribe to Dish TV, I would have a word of advice Hang On.
I am a recent subscriber to this much hyped service from the Zee/ Essel group( VC No.01500683821) and my experience has not been pleasant. No doubt, the sound and picture quality are just too good to be described in words, it is the service that SUUCCKKS and this is what my experience was.
Having made up my mind , I called up the dealer ( who would promptly come and install the dish and set up, I paid out the money ( in my case Rs. 5100 for the MAXI package). Note that the money has to be in hard currency and not by cheque ( the dealer tells you that there is a black component involved !! No receipts are given except for a security deposit for the VC ( Rs. 400) and for the dish ( Rs. 2490) which they say would be refundable after 5 years. Immediately you start getting the free to air channels.
Now the nightmare starts. You wonder what has gone wrong when after 2 days you don’t get the paid channels, despite following all the instructions given for activation. Of course, you have the choice to SMS Dish TV citing your problem for which you are prompltly given a complaint number. After 5 such SMS’s and 4 days your patient wears thin and you make the phone call. There is a security check where you have to narrate your janm- kundali ( pray that the phone is not cut, because then you will have to start again). You would be introduced to Shravan, Susheela, Thomas and Gurdeep ( of course not altogether, but one new for each follow up call).
After one week, you are targetted by your wife and children, consoled by your neighbours and ridiculed by your cable wallah, you start wondering whose insults were more humilaiating and costly ( Dish TV’s or the cablewallahs) and why the hell did you kick the latter out ( but then like in Hotel California, you call and you call but you still can’t kill ( get) the beast ( your paid channels).
A fortnight has passed and guess I have miles to go before I sleep !!
