I am not a very happy person. First, there are a lot of channels - Yes, but are they what I want - NO! Secondly, the pricing is very dynamic, it’s not exactly Rs.300 but has a lot of added charges. Third, the lightest of rains, and even the call center folks say that the images will freeze and service will be interrupted till the rains pass. Fourth.
BY CHANCE, they deactivate your account, reactivation takes 2 hrs to 48 hrs...what a range, seriously. Till date, there have been many instances of my package deactivation (a couple of times it was delayed payment, and other times it was a technical glitch), and God knows the effort that I had to take to get the connection back on.
The call center does some ’’refresh’’ on the VC via satellite up/downlink...this is the gyan you get by the way, and then you’re supposed to leave your STB on on some channel which is nothing that you can make sense of, and leave it on for 2 hrs to 48 hrs for channels to get refreshed. Frankly, I liked Dish TV for their market share, cause you can’t get such shares without substance, but somewhere complacency has stepped in big time, and service standards are being looked down upon. Its been over 2 years since I got my connection;
I was actually being forced to buy Tata Sky, but because only Zee was offering certain regional channels, I settled for Dish TV. The set top box started acting cranky a couple of weeks back, and I was really scared to call the technician home (even if they come home, switch on your STB, switch it off and thats all they do, you gotta pay them Rs. 350.00 plus taxes). This time round, one good samaritan at a Dish TV dealers told me to take it to the HCL service center.
They said nothing was wrong initially, but on my insistence they agreed to keep it under observation. 2 days later I called to realize the STB had crashed (DUNNO HOW!!!), and repairs would take about Rs.1200 or more. In fact, the HCL guy suggested I buy a new STB. So what do I do now...do I cancel this Dish TV subscription and go for another provider, or do I buy a new STB which the Dealer said will be Rs. 1200 plus installation charge of Rs.150 (I could do it myself, but then!!!).
To the Dish TV folks who MAY see this, do you know how Sam Walton got his Walmart to the top??? It’d be a shame if you don’t, but do ask ...
