DishnetDSL - The tale of disconnections.

Please stay away from this DSL stuff. The service is pathetic. 50% of the time the servers are down (during peak times). I get 20kbps on a 64kbps line during peak times! This clearly indicates that they have no bandwidth!

You are probably better off with a Dial up. Ok, you dont pay telephone charges, but read the fine print. The attractive 64kbps line has a traffic limit of 1GB. Anything more and they charge you @ Rs 200/ 100MB!

These people know nothing about their business.

You cannot get through customer support easily. And some technicians so bad! The first one was so bad, that he did not know how to install a driver!! Pathetic. All they are doing is experimenting...at the users cost!

UPDATE APRIL 2002

Things have gone through a sea change in the past couple of months. Dishnet DSL have upped their game. Yes, the speeds are up there, in the 6-7 KBPS region through out the day. Impressed! Service too seems to have improved. No more late bills, wrong statements. This is great.

About a month ago, the cable was accidentally cut, while the Muncipal Corp. was trimming tree branches. But I was up and running in one day!

Apart from that problem, I have not faced any other problem in the past two months. Couple of things that need to be looked into are the 1 GB traffic limit. Come on its time they gave more free traffic. Even the unused traffic of the previous month is not carried over!:(

Another thing is the Centillium ADSL modem. It occasionally needs to be plugged out and in for it to connect.

But yes things have definitely improved. Keep up the good work DishnetDSL.

UPDATE DEC 2002

Its been a mixed bag these past few months. The connection is very stable when it is there. But I have had upto 20-25 complaints of connection failure. That is very high by any standard.

The problem lies either with the quality of cable used or the way it is wired. I do not understand why it has to fail so many times, when it is basically a telephone cable, a higher quality one I might add. Telephones dont fail that often, then why this?

As I said when I do have connection, it is always around 6.5-6.8KB/s.

But with cable being a much cheaper option(not necessarily better), DSL has definitely lost its charm. What with the low(!) speeds and traffic limits. I recommend users to opt for cable, though you may not have stable speeds through out the day, it is a lot cheaper.

I have decided to legally proceed against DDSL. I have five complaints in the past one month itself. Whatever you do, do not go the DSL route with Dishnet. Wait for another company to enter the DSL business(when I do not know) This is a prime example of a bungling company ruining an excellent technology.
