A splendid con job

Broad Band connectivity--The AD copy said, stream music, video browse, at incredible speeds...surely they must be joking I thought, broad band in india..?

Coming from a premier b-school, where bandwidth was a mantra, the CGPA wasn’t as relevant as the total Gb count on the du-meter or the number of movies on cd.

I knew I couldn’t live without at least a 128 kbps connection, and so I took the plunge.

9 months later, I have only grief, regret, shock and empathy for my fellow users of these vile tricksters.

I realized the following though

In Dishnet/Tata/Vsnl Parlance, 128 KBPS means service down about 128 days a year and similarly 256 means u r out for the year.

Customer service means: leaving the customer on hold till he wants to strange the guy who composed the jingle playing in the background.

Broad Band means high speed downloads of 600 BYTES per Second.(note however that I have indeed reached higher speeds, but these are an exception rather than a norm)

We can go merge with Tata let the customer hang.

IPs get blocked if u cross speeds greater than 5 Kb/s !!!! (how does one get them?)

Basic smtp access means having to use ur own smtp server..

In short do not take a Dishnet/Tata/Vsnl Connection coz from day ONE you are DOOMED.!!

Take my advice if u only browse, take a dial up, if u want to download, go elsewhere like europe..(cyber laws in india are set to get stronger with the new government full of internet savvy politicians.. a la laloo..)..
