Well, what can I say about Diu..
Its a really minute version of Goa, a version which residents of Gujarat can be proud of.
I wont go into the details about what beach to go to, and what restaurant to eat at.
Its quite a small place, and you can probably check it out yourself.
Theres a lot to be seen here, there are many isolated spots away from all the crowd.
Although I must say that the crowd can be sometimes really irritating with their littering. Accomodation can be a major problem in peak seasons, especially in mid-range hotels.Theres a range of hotels, right from 100 night a day to 3000 rupees a night, and probably even more.
I would rate the available food as decent, definitely not really good. For good food, there are a few high end hotels, which could cost you quite a bit. The seawater is good, but as I said earlier, littering is a problem in some spots.
Ive been to Diu four times now. And its been good enough everytime.
The other reason you can consider going to Diu is that the Gir Reserve is quite nearby.
The entire coastline of Saurashtra is really beautiful and scenic. But it takes a lot of patience to get thru the narrow and bumpy roads.
It takes around 8 hours to reach Diu from Ahmedabad, by road. Best option would be to take your own car. Other options are by train or bus, to Veraval.
And yes, Diu does have a tiny little domestic airport too.
If youre in or near Gujarat, I would say visit Diu once. Its really not comparable to Goa, but worth a visit.
Many of the people I know in Gujarat havent been to Goa or Mumbai. By visiting Diu, they can atleast get a feel of Goa or Mumbai.
While youre visiting Diu, you can also visit other places on the Gujarat coastline.
