Google about Diveagar and what you get is nothing compared to what this place actually is. I normally get carried away when I love or hate something, hence will keep things simple here
About the place:
Located about 60 kilometers from Mangaon(Goa Highway), this place has a population of around 5, 000 as per the latest estimates of the Government of India. It has a typical small town feel and for relaxing you can spend your time at the lovely neat and clean beach with the hills overseeing you! The place has no cell phone coverage which I found very very exciting!
How to get there(From Mumbai)
You can either drive down(what I did), or hire a taxi till this place. It is around 190 kilometres from Mumbai, filled with dicy roads on the ghaats and the view you get is great and dangerous at the same time. If you are driving down, or hiring a taxi, avoid evening driving since the place has a lot of dangerous turns.
I also saw couple of Government owned red buses plying on the road towards diveagar, hence I am guessing you can opt for them as well.(Personal suggestion - drive down or use a driver but go by road.trust me you wont regret!)
*Where to stay
*The place is far from being commercialized but the local guys are aware that you are there to unwind and if it happens to be a special occasion like new years you could end up paying upto 3000 rupees per day for a double bed room. This rent is the only disadvantage you can possibly think of. If you are not going on a peak time, then I would suggest you drive down and then check in to any of the houses(the local residents give you their houses to stay some money, if you are lucky you can get it at 1000 per day as well!)
Maharastra govt. has a superb guest house named EXOTICA. the reason I call it superb is because if you stay in exotica you can hear the sea waves 24/7! It is very near to the beach.
Alternatively you can call this number as well
Name - Mayur Jain
Mobile number - 9421966331. He is the owner of a resort wherein you can get a cottage and you can drive your car right inside the gate and park it literally near your room!
There is sometime daily for which there is no electricity.but then it adds to that small town feel isnt it? There are some mosquitoes as well(he he)!
*Places to see
*Totally depends on you. I am more into beaches and careless strolls in the evenings and hence found this place nice. You can also visit a jajeera fort near by, and there is a ganesh phuley temple on the way to Diveagar if you are one of those religious types.
*Important thing to note is that if you opt for seeing the jajeera fort, you will have to use a boat to ferry over the sea and then reach the fort.its around 20 kilometers away from diveagar.and most surprisingly, you will get mobile phone network there also. You can drive down till Dighi village and park your car there and then take a ferry, see the fort, come back.and drive back to diveagar
*We did not go the fort, alternatively, we just hired a boat and sailed to a nearby island which was so very beautiful.
*Final verdict:
*It is a beautiful, serene place with nice people around. Food could be a problem for the vegetarians like me becuase either there is too much salt or too much chilly but then these are minor issues compared to the peace you will get once you reach there and spend some time. I am going there again, hopefully for a longer stay so that I can sit by the beach and write, paint or just gaze at the sky, or just wet my feet in the sea as I walk.because Diveagar truly gives you a chance to see, sense and feel everything around you - - Calmly
You could be alone, with family, couple, senior citizen, student - this place wont let you down.so go ahead and leave the world behind for sometime.
*Some DONTS:
Dont drive down at night since the highway is not all that great and steep heights make it all the more dangerous
If you drive a diesel vehicle, make sure that you do not buy diesel on the way since It is normally adulterated. I had to replace my oil filter since they found kerosene(upto60%!) mixed in the diesel right after my diveagar visit
Dont drink and drive!:)
*Take care everyone!
