I knew
that DLink is good one. Its more famous compare to netgear and linksys.
and after reading the 3 review on mouthshut.com I immediately went and bought
"Dlink DI 524 Air Plus G" for Rs 2230(In Bangalore).
Configuration:
I just inserted the Ethernet line coming from BSNL into my WAN port
and one Ethernet from router to PC and that’s it worked.
It hardly took 1-2 minutes for it to work.
I switched on laptop and it was recognizing the wireless.
I tried connecting I got connected also.
then I configured WEP and connected again from laptop it worked. We switched on my
brother’s laptop and he also got connected.
It works like charm. decent speed also. I was able to open grail, hotmail,
yahoo mail
(which some other guy told, wasn’t opening in his machine after deploying this
router)
and we were able to browse in all three machine 2 laptops and one PC, earlier
we use to fight for one and only one cable we had in our house;), it solved
our problem.
Speed: Well that depend on your ISP;
router was able to its job well.
Minus points about this router are:
1-) Lack of MAC Authentication: I
have used Qwest router in past, they had one security
option in wireless, where user can specify
"Look router uncle do not connect to
any other laptop other than the one
who is having XYZ MAC address."
If you have that feature, you don’t needWEP, WPA1, WPA2.
because other than your laptop(s) no body else can connect at any
cost.
So this feature is missing in product. I wish they will bring this
in
in their future releases. It’s so simple to configure rather than
understanding
WPA1, 2 first n configuring them.
2-) Poor help: The help guide which
they have given does not cover
how to use advance option of router interface.
I don’t know what is WPA1, WPA2 and their different category.
neither they thought its our responsibility to explain user
how to use them.
Right now I m googling to find out what are they and how to use
them, because I believe WEP is not all that strong.

U know what DI-524 has MAC
authentification.I found it today.
Open https://192.168.0.1\ and go to Advance->Filters->MAC filters
Now I would say DI 524
rocks. This the only thing I was looking for, Now I am changing my rating
from 4 start to five star
