Story: Gouramma hails from a middle class family with two sons Chandru and Girish. Girish is a clerk and marries Vinuta who is also from a middle class family. Vinuta takes good care of the family but is not respected well by Gouramma. Things take turn for the worse for Vinuta when Chandru, elder brother of Girish who works in USA marries a girl from a rich family. Gowramma starts comparing Vinuta with Chandru’s wife and disrespects her continuously which takes toll on Vinuta’s physical and mental health. Then, Gowramma gets chance to visit USA to see Chandru where an important realization happens for her. What is the realization and how did it occur? How did this realization impact her relation with Vinuta forms the rest of story.

Sudha Murthy has shaped characters in a brilliant way. We can relate all the characters in the story to our real lives quite easily. The two main characters are Vinuta and Gowramma while the other characters play a supporting role.
Lessons learnt from the book:
Yes, I’ve lot of important lessons from the book. From the character of Gowramma, we would realise that values of a person are more important than money. Vinuta’s character depicts how to respect elders and take care of them. Chandru’s wife character shows how some people pretend to look like without depicting their internal intentions.
Do I recommend the Book-
Yes, I would recommend the book for sure. Its written in such simple English that a child going to school can read it easily. You can complete reading the book at a stretch in 3-4 hours. Finally, one thing which is guaranteed from this book is you would travel with both story and characters while reading and would get a great emotional satisfication after finishing.
