Don 2 is a better, stylish and most importantly well paced film than its predecessor i, e. The 2006 Don.. Its well scripted and acted.. If there is one thing to like the 2006 Don it has to be SRKs anti hero character Don.. The rest of the film was just average stuff.. And in Don 2 Farhan Akthar and Shah Rukh Khan takes that character in to new heights.. Yes, Ive to admit it, Its caricaturish but entertaining.. Don teams up with Vardan once again and is planning to capture the whole underworld by storm..! For this he targets Berlin and plans to heist currency printing plates from the Berlin Bank.. Its a familiar storyline but Farhan doesnt go all Fast&Furious on us.. He cleverly sets up interplots between Don and Vardan and several twists to keep you engaged..!
Despite its several hiccups here and there what keeps you engaged is the performance of SRK and the rich & witty dialogues.. Watch that interrogation scene between inspector Malik and Don in the first half where don tells malik aap mere maa ko nahi jaante the, its a clever scene which gives depth to Dons character.. He even says the infamous dialogue from Godfather Make me an offer I cant refuse.. Its a sinful crime from the makers part to do so but SRK gives it a refreshing flair.. The action sequences are consistent and eye-popping.. Theres a pulsating chasing sequence where Roma chases Don through the streets of Berlin..! Sharukh Khans jump from a 300 feet Berlin building is also a highlight of the film.. Although what doesnt work in the film is the understated romance between Roma and Don.. The reason why I say it doesnt work is because Priyanka is just not good enough to pull it off.. Sorry pinky chops, you look sexy as always but just not versatile enough to pull off both Jungli Billi and Sharmeeli Billi at the same time...!
The other cast in the film includes Boman Irani as Vardan reprising his role from the 06 Don, Kunal Kapoor as Sameer Ali, Lara Dutta as Aisha and Om puri as Malik.. Hrithik Roshan also makes a cameo appearance which I felt was highly unnecessary..
One word about the songs.. Mediocre.. The only hummable track is the 70s style song Dushman Mera sung by Shankar Mahadevan.. The rest is just dump..
Final Verdict:- Im going with 3 out of 5 for Shah Rukh Khans Don 2.. At a running time of approximately 2.25 hours it doesnt bore you off like the 2006 version.. Its all cat and Mouse stuff which basically works because there is only one Don in bollywood who can convincingly play negative roles one after another.. Shah Rukh Khan.. The film heavily relies on his shoulders.. And one more thing, in the final scene of the film, his Bikes number plate read DON 3.. And considering the fact that it is another open ending like its predecessor a third sequel is not completely out of the cards.. Isnt it..? Hi.. Hi.. Don ko pakdna Mushkil Hi Nahin Na Mumkin hain..... A FILM BY FARHAN AKTHAR.. LOL..!
