Franky , I am a big fan of Big B (As most folks are). Around a week or two before this movie was launched I remember discussing with some friends and my take on this movie was "This is gonna be one big flop! I dont know how SRK can be cast in place of Big B". Well I do not know if its going to be a hit or a flop, but what I do know is that SRK was not cast in place of Big B, he was cast as "The Don".
My take on the movie? Slick ! Smooth ! Funky ! Fast ! Cool ! A non-stop entertainer ! Loved it !
Kudos to the director. The first thing you notice about the movie is that he has tailored the movie to SRK’s persona. The script might be the same, but the execution is totally different. SRK is different type of Don. He might not have the larger than life image that Big B might have had in the original Don, but the thing is he never tries to potray an image like that. He is the next gen Don. Smooth, Egoistic, Exceptionally well dressed and extremely cool !
What about the women ?
Priyanka Chopra .... she is a Punk, is the the closest thing to what I can describe her role in the movie and boy does she play it to perfection. I would not say she was hot or she sizzled on the screen, but she sure did hold my attention and also of everyone else in the theatre. The scene where she rescues SRK wearing all white is simply way cool ! She is the coolest lady thug I have ever seen in Hindi movies.
Kareena ... smirk giggle ... the plump pudding is all I can say. Cute is what she comes acorss as when she tries to dance and seduce SRK.
Koppikar ... hmmm .... not bad. The song where Priayanka and Koppikar dance together ... good one. Priyanka wins the competition.
Another good thing about the movie is the songs. The same old songs but they sound totally new !
I think this might just start a new series of Hindi movies. I would not be surprised if Don were to be the Hindi movies answer to James Bond ... think about it ... Sean Connery started it in Hollywood and it was never supposed to a series. Same way Amitabh started it here. I think it has the potential. I would love to see different actors play the Don.
All in all, and excellent movie. Just dont expect SRK to suddenly morph into Aby Baby, and I am sure you will come out paisa wasool !!! Cheers !
