A Good Effort!

Farhan Akhtar has carved an image for himself and in doing so, he has also carved a market for himself. And this has not been achieved overnight! To do this, Farhan Akhtar has created two films viz. Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya.

While Dil Chahta Hai took a totally new, refreshing and practical look at friendship and life and emerged as a cult classic in cinema, Lakshya garnered great critical acclaim for its sensitive portrayal of a coming-of-age youngster.

After creating two sensitive films, when a maverick filmmaker like Farhan decides to remake yesteryear cult classic "Don", the decision does raise many an eyebrows. There are many reasons, as to why one looks forward to Don with great expectations:

  • The older version has attained a cult classic status and is remembered for many reasons.

  • The former was co-scripted by Javed Akhtar (Farhan’s dad)

  • Khaike Paan Banaraswaala, Yeh Mera Dil and also the theme score

  • Above all, Amitabh Bachchan’s charismatic screen presence and stylish performance

I would say that one needs to watch the new avtaar with an open mind and treat it is a new film altogether. And the director has been clever enough to incorporate some twists in the characters and script (for the better!)

Technically, the film is at par with Farhan’s earlier works. Sound, background score, visual effects are brilliant. Camerawork is absolutely stupendous. Color grading has been done very neatly here.

Performance-wise Shahrukh is stylish and everything that Don needs to be. The only glitch in his performance comes during essaying Vijay. The countryside accent just doesn’t come naturally to him! Priyanaka is the perfect replacement to Zeenat.

Everyone else has done a good and sincere job.

Good effort by Farhan!
