DON … a much anticipated movie. I entered the movie hall with a decision – not to compare it against the original movie. But I couldn’t live upto my decision and from minute one started comparing. If you have seen the original one recently or you have by-hearted it, you will spent first few minutes in mapping the new cast with the original characters.
Farhan Aktar has taken the domestic criminal to an international level. DON makes his entry in Paris as usual of his style – to crack a big deal. Along with sharp brain as the previous DON this modern DON has aid of modern technology and fast cars.
The movie is set in Malaysia from where DON runs his empire. The story has few deviations from the original one to keep audience interest intact. The movies has good pace and is very sleek. The car chases, fight sequences and stunts are extremely well shot and deserves a pat on back. The music by Shankar- Ehsaan –Loy is inline with the modern look of the movie. The two new numbers composed by them as very good. The new title number sung by Shaan is catchy.
There is no point in comparing performances of the new cast with the original one. In absolute terms as always Sharukh delivers. In-spite of not having the adequate personality he carries the role of a cold-blooded criminal very well. Priyanka’s presence is superb and she fits perfectly into the role of “wild cat”. Other noteworthy performances are of Bomen Irani and Om Puri. Arjun Rampal is strictly ok. And last but not least Kareena sizzles in the superhit “Ye mera dil …pyaar ka deewana”.
The USP of this movie is the modern look with superb stunts. The car chases and fight sequences are a delight. Being shot in Malaysia the stunt sequences are comparable to that of a Hollywood movie. The chorography is delightful. And to add to this the story takes a twist post interval.
The original Don is a classic and this one may not be. But it’s definitely worth watching one time. For those who haven’t watched the original one it’s a must watch.
