I know very few people who even know about the existence of a channel by name DD Sports. Anyway everybody watches the channel only when there is cricket coverage. Even then a major percentage thinks that it is the normal DD channel and are not aware that it is on a separate channel called DD Sports.
The channel airs such hopeless sporting events during all other times other than when it is airing cricket telecast, I wonder who they want to cater to. It is a fact that people used to watch regional sporting events when they were shown on DD in earlier days when there were no satellite channels. But anybody with a normal common sense can understand that people used to watch them for lack of better programs on television those days.
DD Sports is a total waste of time, energy and resources. I hardly can believe if it has a viewership in excess of a few thousands. They keep showing regional basketball, volleyball, tennis, competitions which apart from the relatives of those participating none others would be watching. I am sure even the friends of the participants would not watch.
Programming quality is something DD sports employees have not even heard of. Lesser said the better. The quality of the image is still as it used to be in the days of terrestrial service and antennae reception. The camerawork is very pathetic. Most events are hardly covered by one or at the most two cameras. And the cameraman ends up showing the wrong court often, with the ball being in the other court.
And commentary is as bad as the picture, if not worse. It is better to watch the channel in mute mode. The commentators are mostly ignorant or at the most with limited knowledge of the sport. They normally sit in the studio and comment and even on occasions when present in the actual venue, their ignorance of the sporting event is so bad that they can be best described as clowns in a circus.
I always feel why and for whom the cable operator is airing this channel. He could use the receiver for any additional channel. When there is a cricket match or the FIFA world cup, you can always switch back.
