I was at a used a book sale when I saw a book called The Door Of Perception. It was written by Aldous Huxley in 1954.
I dont know why I picked up the book, because I think the Author is an evil man.
I flipped through the index, when I saw a chapter that I was personally involved in, so I bought the book.
My Review
The book begins in when you read about Louis Lewins book, that was about the study of cactus. It tells you how th ancient Indians of South America and Mexico, use the cactus root, (peyote), they believed they were G-d.
Psychologists like, Ellis Havelock and Mitchell Weir, began their experiments with mesquite, (peyote).
This book is about how drugs can control minds. LSD, (that was first made at the University of Saskatoon, in Saskatchewan, Canada). He made this by joining adrenal and mesquite. This would block out our mind and we hallucinate.
He believes that this is when we see wonderful things, that we would never have seen, if we did not use drugs.
He would like the reader to believe that even the smallest thing become beautiful. A stone, a weed, or any thing you might think is useless, (if you were not using drugs), becomes beautiful.
Huxley was able to enter that parallel universe described by every mystic and space captain in recorded history.
The bonds are much harder to break today, half a century later. We are the most conditioned, programmed people that the world has ever known. Not only are our thoughts and attitudes continually being shaped and molded.
Our very awareness of the whole design seems like it is being subtly erased. The doors of our perception are carefully regulated.
I still think he is an evil man, who want the reader to believe he is Satan.
Huxley sums up the effects of psychoactive chemicals pretty well, describing how they grant access to previously dormant rooms of the mind as well as the hallucinations.
I Think
I thought he could have used less words to make the same points. I dont have to use drugs and neither do you!
Try learning to hypnosis your self, to relax.
The Author
Aldous Huxley was born in England, but died in California. His first book, Chrome Yellow, was published in 1921.
The Personal Part
On of my friends when to the University on Saskatoon, and was in the class. Every one had to take LSD, (including the Professor). My friend left school, and disappeared. His family didnt know where he was, until two years later, when the police called. My friend was found dead on the corner of a street in San Francisco. He had jumped from the top of a building because he thought he could fly!
Information
I had the paperback book, (thats was put into my trash), that was published by Harper Collins. I paid $1.00 for it.
