Unbearable trash!

The recipe for this movie:

  1. Take ghisa-pita 80s plots of Qurbani and Anand

  2. Mix them up to come up with a nonsensical plot.

  3. Throw in flop actors like Bobby Deol and Lara Dutta.

  4. Give everyone clichéd roles.

  5. Add unbearable amounts of melodrama.

  6. Stir.

I watched this movie yesterday and this was one of the most unbearable movies I’ve seen recently. In formulaic fashion, the movie starts out with a flashback when a poor boy saves a lonely rich boy’s life, and they become inseparable friends. There are scenes like the rich boy holding an umbrella over the sleeping poor boy all night to keep him from the rain (I was screaming to myself: Give me a break!). The film then cuts to the present, shows the two boys grown up. One is a loose character who sleeps around with girls. He is played by Bobby Deol, who refuses to take a hint and insists on continuing to inflict himself on us. The other friend (Akshay Kumar), obviously the poor one, is the steady sort who keeps getting his rich benefactor out of trouble. The movie trudges on with the usual tedious twists and turns with both trying to marry a girl of their choice. And ends incomprehensibly in an Anand-style ending. The female leads are played by Kareena Kapoor and Lara Dutta, both more or less forgettable and irrelevant to the plot (if there is one). I’m still confused what dosti has to do with this film. Yes, the two main characters are friends, but that’s about it. There’s really nothing else I can say about this movie, so I’m going to make this review short.

To summarize, the less said about this movie the better. Do yourself a big favour and avoid this film if you value your time and respect your sanity.
