All good things come to an end. One of the all-time great musical duos Nadeem-Shravan has decided to split. I was too shocked to hear this. Why on earth would they do this? 2005 was a great year for them what with films like Bewafaa, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Barsaat and Dosti-Friends Forever having splendid music and moreover doing quite well in terms of sales. Hope better sense prevails and they get back together to do what they do best: give melodious music and entertain us. In these days of crazy fast music, NS stood out by giving some stupendous music, which one doesn’t forget after 2-3 hearings…
Anyways, some details about Dosti-Friends Forever:
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Juhi Chawla
Music Directors: Nadeem-Shravan
Lyricist:Sameer
Producer/Director: Suneel Darshan
Cassettes and CDs on: Shree Krishna International Audio.
The review:
- Yeh Dosti
(Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan)
The album has an excellent start. After using the tabla magnificently over the years for giving some outstanding romantic songs, NS use the same for a friendship song.
Result:One of the best friendship songs ever. Udit and Sonu gel so well that one gets the feeling that they are FRIENDS FOREVER!!! Sameer’s lyrics are so good.
Sample this: Kasmon Mein Tu, Waadon Mein Tu, Har Pal Rahe Yaadon Mein Tu, Meri Duniya, Mere Armaan, Meri Pehchaan Tujhse Hai, Mera Jeevan, Meri Dhadkan, Meri To Jaan Tujhse Hai….. Well done all….. Rating:10/10
- Dulhaniya
Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet, Kunal Ganjawala
This one is a rocking song. It is a Shaadi song, which is not of the usual type associated with marriages. It has some great beats and makes one dance. The continuous repetition of the word ”Dulhaniya” only adds to the fast pace of the song. Ganjawala dominates this song but he is well supported by the evergreen Alka (why don’t we hear her more these days??) and Abhijeet. Another winner from NS… Rating:8/10
- Aisa Koi Zindagi Mein
Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet
Well, this is a romantic song and when it comes to romantic songs, NS are the undisputed kings. So, this is a sweet cute song. Sameer has always given great lyrics for NS when it comes to romantic songs and this is no exception. Abhijeet and Alka remind of another great romantic song ”Yeh Jo Dil Hai” from Barsaat Rating:9/10
- Lets Boogie Woogie
Vasundhara Das, Kunal Ganjawala
Aashiqui didn’t need it. Neither did Saajan, Deewana, Dhadkan, Raja Hindustani, etc.. Yep, I am talking about the item songs. But with changing times, NS have churned out one such song in almost every album of them lately viz. Bewafaa (“Kehta Hai Kabutar), Barsaat(“Nakhre”), etc. So, in Dosti, this is the song where Sameer lets his hair (if he has any!!!) down and the lyrics go for a complete toss. But mind you, this is nevertheless a rocking song. The singers sing with their full “josh” and one doesn’t really mind the awkward lyrics so much. Rating: 8/10.
- Ishq Na Ishq Ho
Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher
I have always loved the sad songs churned out by NS {from ”Ab Tere Bin Jee Lenge Hum” ( Aashiqui) to ”Maine Tumse Pyaar”(Barsaat)}. This is one hell of a sad song rendered so wonderfully by Sukhwinder and Kailash. The alaap by Kailash is so touching. Its also of the Qawali type. Aankh Bhar Aayi Hai Dil Ghabraya Hai Ishq Deewanon Ko Kis Mod Pe Laya Hai Sameer once again shows his worth… Rating:10/10.
- Aur Tum Aaye
Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam
Finally, a typical NS song which means the tabla is the key instrument. NS know perfectly when to use the tabla. They have given so many hits by using the tabla to utmost perfection. This song is no exception. The lyrics too are very good… Zindagi Ek Ajab Mod Pe Aa Khadi Aur Tum Aaye, Aur Tum Aaye, Har Khushi Saath Mera Chodke Jaa Rahi Thi, Aur Tum Aaye, Aur Tum Aaye. Sonu dominates this song but Alka makes her presence felt even in a small paragraph… My favourite song in this album. Rating:10/10.
- Yaar Di Shaadi
Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam, Abhijeet, Sarika Kapoor
This is yet another Shaadi song in the album. The main protagonist {Akshay (voice given by Sonu)}is happy that his friend’s wedding is taking place and he was just waiting for this day. Abhijeet, Alka and Sarika give able support to Sonu and the music is ok. Nothing special except when the drums are played.. Rating:7/10.
NS deliver yet another winner in the form of Dosti- Friends Forever. The great thing about NS is that even in this age of metallic music, they have stuck to the roots giving soulful music. It’s a pity that they are no longer together. Who will give melodious music now????? Any answers??? Come on ARR, Himesh Reshammiya, etc….
