DMP versus Inkjet

Both the DMP(Dot Matrix Printer) and DJ(Deskjet/Inkjet Printers) are used for printing, But the technology used in both are different.

Both have their own advantages as well as disadvantages.

DMP Printers are normally used in industries for continious printing like printing of Ledger/Cash Book etc. These are also used to print Multi-Part Stationery like Invoices.

The DMP Printers are normally available in form of 80 Column and 132 Column (with printer Head of 9 Pin and 24 Pin Option).

The Initial cost of these printers are high as compared to Inkjet printers(Approx. Rs. 6000 to 9000 for 80 Col. DMP and Rs. 9k to 16k for 132 Col. DMP), but running cost of these printers are very-2 less because no ink-cartridge is required. Only the ribon(of few Rs.) needs to be changed in these printers.

The printer head of these printers are repairable. These printers are best for heavy duty text printings. For graphic printing, these printers are not advisable. The main manufacturer of DMP Printers are Epson, Wipro, TVS etc. On the other hand, the initial cost of Inkjet Printers are very low(approx. from Rs. 1850 to Rs. 3500).

But the running cost of these printers are high due to high cost of Cartriadges(Approx. Rs. 1600 for Color and Black Set) used in these printers. These printers are best only if number of print-outs are less and Color Printing is required. At home, for normal work(windows based and graphical printing) these printers are advisable.
