I had gone to Panjab University’s dental college Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences - Chandigarh Sec 25 in November 2007 for checking about a front tooth cap (I had a RCT on this tooth 5 years back and hence it discolored). I met with Dr Sudhir who was also taking care of my mother’s dentures. He seemed very promising in first look. He gave me an appointment and met me on the time as booked. He explained the process to me and told me it would take just a couple of sittings to give me a new dental cap which would look much better. He also told me that the institute’s laboratory isn’t really good so he can get an excellent all-ceramic cap for me from a local lab which would cost just rs 3500.
The idea looked good to me as outside it would have cost me 6000 something. He took the impressions and told me to come after 1 week. On next appointment, while working on the tooth - he broke it completely. He said it was very weak and could hold on to the pressure. This guy did not follow the process to take an X-ray to see how strong it looks.
The next option for me was to get a fiber post in my tooth to hold the cap. This was again not available in college and he charged 1100 for it. After 1 week the post also came off as the cap was too heavy. He took the cap and post back and charged me 1000 more for something I don’t remember.
The next best option he proposed was to put an implant in my tooth for which he needed to take me to a very renowed PGI doctor. The overall cost was told to me as 11000 which I had to pay in advance. The PGI doctor was excellent and did amazingly well to make sure it was done properly. After a few days I went to Dr Sudhir to get the soochers removed and this guy messed up the implant at this time again.
He again asked for more money to do another implant done, which I had to get done considering how far we had gone. Luckily, this time the PGI doc owned up the whole thing and didnt give Dr Sudhir any chance. The implant was a success and perfect.
This was the time to put the final cap on implant. Dr Sudhir asked for 6000 more to get the new cap. This was really high time and I checked with another private doctor on how much it would cost me outside. That guy told me he will charge 5000 to get this done. I never went to this greedy and unskilled Dr Sudhir again and got it done from outside.
I know it might sound stupid of me to keep pursuing with him but my problem was that any other doctor would not have taken up an already messed up case easily. Besides the PGI doctor was a blessing as he was the best I have gone to till date. He did not charge a penny and went by the rules.
I strongly doscourage anyone to go to this institute as it does not save any money, time and you end up getting the worst care or end up like me being their playground.
