Let me begin by saying that when my daughter came to me about 10 years ago and said, mom, I want a pair of Doc Martens., I had no idea what she was talking about.
She went on to explain that they were the latest in footwear. So I said, okay, lets go have a look.
Off we went to the mall to her favorite shoe store, Wild Thing. When we asked about them the salesperson laughed and said, your best bet is to go to the Army-Navy store.
??????? The Army-Navy store for shoes. But being the person I was (and am), off we went for another short ride to the Army-Navy store in Margate.
When we arrived, we went over to where they sell the shoes and boots and lo and behold they had a huge selection of Doc Marten boots. Ankle high, over the ankle, calf high. Black, purple, green, red, blue.
And then I looked at the prices!! The least expensive were $95.00 and the most expensive were $225.00!
I gasped!
Do you really want a pair of these? Oh maaaaaaa, I really, really, really, do, she whined.
So we started looking at the different boots.
There was a little card on the wall explaining the story of Doc Marten Boots. It seems they were invented by an orthopaedic Doctor. Doctor Maerten. He invented these boots in Europe for comfort and durability to ease his own foot pain. He began selling them to his patients who in turn raved about the comfort. They are in fact styled after military footwear.
She tried on a couple of pair and settled on the black (everything she wore then was black!) almost calf high boots, at $125.00.
......And she wore them for years! And shed still be wearing them today, 10 years later, if she hadnt gotten into a mood one day (in about the 4th year of use) and spray painted them with silver designs and then couldnt wear them any more because the paint would stain everything.
In this time, I myself bought a pair and loved the comfort they gave me. I wore them everywhere. And to this day I still have them in my closet! I dont wear them as much now, but every once in a while, out come the Doc Martens!
They may not be in style any more, but the comfort is still the same! And comfort will always be in style.
Would I buy them again? Would she buy them again? You bet!
