SRC Institute for Speech and Hearing is a teaching institution for Graduate and PG courses in Audiology and Speech Pathology. Seems to be having good faculty and facilities. Hearing Assessment tests were done by supervisors and produced professional looking reports.
However, hearing aid trials are conducted by students. In a teaching institute, that also is acceptable, if done under professional supervision. In the case of my baby, it was done by a student who was just going through the motions. She was not able to answer our queries.
Ear mould for fitting hearing aid was prepared at the institute - she did not even recognize that it was ill-fitting and rough. One hearing aid was tested on first day; on second visit another hearing aid was to be tested - she brought one model (that was not in in the recommended list given to us) and she herself acknowledged that it was programmed approximately without even consulting the audiology report! She was just going through the motions just to do the session.
On our third visit, she continued testing the same hearing aid that was tested during our first visit. The hearing aid selection tests in this institute is a FARCE. May be it is OK if you get perceptive and keen students but we were not so fortunate.
The ear mould prepared by the Institute for my baby did not fit his ears. Either the guy doesnt know how to take ear mould measurements or he mixed up samples with another patient. Rs.1400/- I paid for it was a waste. I had to get it made again at another professional Institute by paying Rs.1200/- (Yes, Rs. 200 less than what SRC charged).
Our first visit for audiology tests and interactions with the faculty/supervisors was highly satisfactory but subsequent visits for hearing aid assessments and ear mould preparation were highly unsatisfactory.
