A Haunting Look at Dracula

I saw this outstanding horror classic as a child many times, and even today when it’s shown on cable TV during Halloween. I enjoyed Bela Lugosi in his leading role of Dracula. His slow movements as he creeps toward the screen adds a wonderful boost of horror to this delightful classic, and gem of a horror movie.

Bela Lugosi is certainly a horror legend of his time. His Hungarian accent, and bulging eyes of terror always added a certain chilling boost of horror in his lead roles of horror and mystery movie. Bela Lugosi’s career on the big screen took many turns of success and failure. His experiments with mysteries, comedy horror, and sequels would eventually lead to a doomed fate of failure along with his lost wealth.

I loved this Hungarian actor because of his lead roles in horror films. He was always chilling and entertaining despite some of the mediocre plots, and acting that came with the movies he was featured in.

His leading role in this 1931 classic ’’Dracula’’ proved to be a scary and entertaining movie despite its slow pacing. This movie is directed by Tod Browning, and written by John L. Baderston, and Hamilton Deane. In this movie a strange man is killed in his home town of England, and is resurrected to life. He later goes on a savage spree of murder, and cannibalism drinking the blood of his victims along with the capture of his next victim, Mina, (Helen Chandler, It’s a Bet 1935). Count Dracula later meets a doctor who will have a dreadful fate on his life.

Final Thoughts on ’’Dracula’’

There are very good moments of acting in this movie from Bela Lugosi, but I must admit this is not the best version of ’’Dracula’’ I’ve seen. While this movie is exciting because of its black, and white cinematography, the black and white format gives this movie a wonderful haunting look. As for the plot the script it is well-written the concept of a well dressed zombie who comes back from the dead, and seduces its victims for their blood allows for a pretty good, and entertaining classic horror movie. The pacing in this movie is a bit slow , but it works quite well. Overall ’’Dracula’’ is a wonderful horror classic that you’ll enjoy.
