Following the popularity of its predecessor, "Dream Girl 2, " the sequel to the 2019 smash, had large shoes to fill. However, it falls short of expectations, giving little more than hackneyed gags and a stale plot.
Ayushmann Khurrana reprises his role as the hero, although his portrayal of a male who can imitate a womans voice over the phone lacks the freshness and inventiveness that made the original "Dream Girl" so interesting. While Khurranas brilliance is evident in his portrayal of the protagonist, the screenplay does not help him.
The plot of the film feels like an extension of the first installment, with a typical plot centered on a contact center for lonely hearts. Its disheartening to see the same conventional technique being used, with no novel twists or turns. Even the subplots and supporting characters fall short of bringing the story to life.
The humor in "Dream Girl 2" is primarily reliant on cheap, crude jokes that frequently miss the mark. Instead of being smart and insightful, the gags come across as forced and immature. The creators clearly intended to mimic the originals success by reusing established clichés, but in doing so, they compromised the inventiveness that made the first picture interesting.
The supporting ensemble, which includes Nushrat Bharucha and Annu Kapoor, is wasted in one-dimensional, shallow roles. Their characters contribute little to the plot, and their performances, while decent, do not stand out.
The soundtrack, which was a highlight of the original film, isnt as memorable this time around. The tracks lack the famous lyrics and catchy melody that made the original album a hit.
While "Dream Girl 2" has some amusing moments and a few laughs here and there, they are far too few and far between to save the film from its overall mediocrity. The plots repetition and dependence on tired humor make it tough to keep engaged throughout the length.
