Well, you could say i’m a party animal! Ever since my parents have moved back to India, i’ve been enjoying my new found freedom! Don’t worry - not all the parties I go to are full on everybody gets drunk, passes out in the swimming pool parties.. I like going to a variety of parties, and due to the fact I have loadsa friends up here, i’m out quite a lot of the weekend!
In this review, i’m gonna take you through a few of the recent clothing situations i’ve been in and the clothing dilemma’s that went through my head. I’m not saying you should copy my style, i’m not boasting about it either! I just think it might be useful if hear about some of the parties i’ve went to and it might be helpful if you’re ever in the same situation! And if it doesn’t help you (which it probably won’t), then just sit back and read about me, parties, and the scary world of clothes.
It was my Friend’s 20th Birthday Bash at some club somewhere a few weeks ago! This is a friend ive known for some time now (a friend who’s currently engaged to my ex-fiance. We are all told to dress sexy but casual. It was an occasion with loadsa guys and girls on a Friday night.what did I wear?
I wanted to go for something casual, but not something that made it seem like I hadn’t tried at all. I can’t think of anything worse.turnin up to someone’s party looking like a ragamuffin. It doesn’t show them respect.at least have some courtesy! I also didn’t wanna look like i’d overdone it! So I chose a plain black sleeveless top and wrapped a fancy pleated shawl around my shoulders (are yaar, thanda bhi lagta hai!) I teamed this up with jeans (my smart ones, not my everyday faded ones) and teamed this up with white stiletto sandles! This sort of outfit can be both casual and classy.
A few days later, I was invited to an Indian Barbeque Party. It was a very sunny day and I knew a lot of students like myself would be going. However, a lot of respected dadajis/dadimaas/uncles/aunties would be there too! I didn’t wanna go too modern, and I didn’t wanna go too old-fashioned. Plus, it was an indian barbeque so I wanted a desi image as well.what did I wear?
Well, seeing as it was so nice and bright outside (something that rarely happens in NCL) and it was an indian barbeque, I wore a thin turquoise linen saree. The colour was light which really brightened up the atmosphere and not wanting to seem too old-fashioned, I teamed it up with big matching earrings, waved my hair and kept make-up to a minimum but basic!
I was invited to my Friend’s casual’i have nothing better to do with my time’ party which had no particular purpose! Still, it was no throwaway event! About 40 people were coming to his house, boys and girls alike and I knew quite a lot of them would be younger than me by a few years(not that i’m that old!) (many would be freshees)! So, wanting to still seem like the student I was but with in with the 17-18 year old crowd.what did I wear?
Well, I wore a denim miniskirt (ok guys, before you click the NU’s, hear me out!) However, I wore black tights and teamed it up with knee high flat suede boots to give a young but experienced look (and I didnt have ne flesh exposing:-P!) I wore a bright yellow T-Shirt with a thin black scarf wound loosely around my neck! I left my hair down and wore looped earrings.
Just last weekend, I was attending my ex-fiance’s Birthday Party. I was really confused what to wear for this, because things still aren’t that ok between us. We’re on speaking terms but I suppose thats it.so i’m going to a party I really dont wanna be at, I dont wanna dress up, I don’t wanna dress down.what did I wear?
Well, the long decorated skirt look is really in in NCL at the moment, so I wore a lovely long blue skirt which had inticrate designs and mirrors on it. I teamed it up with a plain black sleeveless and matching blue shawl. Not too attention seeking.not too uncatchy!
And most importantly, I didn’t know which look to rock for my OWN BIRTHDAY PARTY last year! C’mon guys, becoming 20 is no joke;-)! I had english friends and indian friends coming(around 50) and I wanted to look good but not overdone! Both english and indian were coming.what did I wear?
Well I wore a red modern kurti top and teamed it up with jeans, giving an indian, yet english look. I straightened my hair and wore large earrings. I put on a generous amount of make up, but tried my best not to look overdone. Wearing small heels, I felt I had done the tried hard, but not too hard look very well!
Ok, those were just some of the situations i’ve been in but if in doubt just remember -
1. Jeans go with everything!
2. Accesorize, but not too much!
3. Come with a true smile on your face.your face will just light up and it wont matter what you’re wearing!
4. You know what suits you best! If there’s an outfit you know you look good in, wear it!
5. At the end of the day, you’re at a party to have a good time! Don’t spend too much time worrying about what you’re wearing and go and party!
