So, you’ve got this great party to go to. The invitation said dress: casual. Hmmmmmmm. Now does that mean you show up in your tattered blue jeans and a ratty old T-shirt? Does it mean you can wear the shorts you just finished gardening in? How about that old flannel shirt with the holes in the elbows?
OR, does it just mean you don’t have to put on that new dress or 3 piece suit?
Well, casual to me means to wear something comfortable!
Wear the newly pressed blue jeans with a nice blouse(or shirt). A nice pair of slacks and casual shirt would do as well. Wear that denim skirt with a pullover top. And for you guys, newly pressed jeans with a sport shirt will do. You can leave the top couple of buttons open and roll up your sleeves. Wear those new Khaki slacks and a pull over shirt. Or even slacks with a sweater.
Do not show up in the ratty and tattered clothing I mentioned above. It shows a lack of respect for the person throwing the party. Not caring what you look like is telling everyone, ’I don’t care.’ And you obviously do care or you wouldn’t be reading this!
If the invitation says’pool and barbeque party’, you know it’s very casual and you can show up in shorts and a nice T-shirt. Don’t show up in your bathing suit with a towel thrown over your shoulder! That’s reserved for running next door to your best friend’s house for a dip in the new pool.
And as with all other parties, a casual party doesn’t mean to leave manners at home. You still need to be on time, not overstay your welcome and show up with a small token gift.
Lastly, if you’re still unsure, call the host or hostess and ASK!
