“DRISHYAM”
Expectations are huge when a masterpiece already made in three languages and has been super hit, is remade in Hindi, and when you have National Award Winner power performers like Ajay Devgn and Tabu, expectations rise about the limit. Drishyam is Hindi is not only known for its base ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’ but also for the completely different treatment given to the dimensions of the characters by the lead actors.
Vijay Salgaonkar(Ajay Devgn), an orphan, who has learnt to live his life the hard ways, is now running a cable operating services in a fiction town in Goa. His happy family consists of his wife(Shriya Saran), his elder daughter(Ishita) and his younger daughter.
Vijay is well-known for being a very nice ‘seedha-saadha’ man to all the people in the town, but not to the corrupt Police Inspector Gaitonde. Events happened in Vijay’s life, leading to an unwanted accident, and he falls in the traps of Police. The story is about the Vijay and his family proving themselves innocent.
This is the second Hindi movie of Director Nishikant Kamat whose Marathi Movie ‘Dombivali Fast’ has been awarded with National Award. Thankfully, Nishikant Kamat hasn’t done many changes in the basic plot of the story. But, as a director, he somewhere is not successful to create a top-notched suspense from start to end. The first half of the movie(of an hour long) is spent for building the characters, and it does it successfully but at a bit slow pace. But it’s not boring at all. The second half involves the chase between Ajay Devgn and Tabu to find the truth, where the audience is glued to their tables.
Cinematography is good but it isn’t excellent. Such movie doesn’t require many song, thus there are only two songs which doesn’t make you leave your seat and go for the bathroom. Background music could have been better because in such film that is very important.
Ajay Devn has played Vijay Salgaonkar under the skin. His intense eyes are enough to express frustration, anger, hidden emotions, smartness and his body language is enough to prove that he is a middle class ‘chouthi fail ganwar’. He lives his role in his own style without following the legends like Mohanlal and Kamal Hassan. Tabu(IG Meera Deshmukh), after Haider, is seen in completely different avatar. She is shown the strictness of a Police Office and the emotions of a mother very effectively. Shriya Saran is satisfactory. The two daughters are natural in their acting.
Overall, Drishyam has been a masterpiece, and will always remain a masterpiece. And this Hindi Drishyam is the masterpiece because of the actors.
