I booked a 21 inch color TV from DTDC Bannerghatta road franchise in Bangalore on Sunday. The destination was Pune. It was delivered in a badly damaged state. See the attached Pics to understand what I mean. I had to pay Rs 2160/- for this kind of service apart from the mental stress of speaking numerous times to their customer care and franchise office.
Guess what, these people are liable to pay only Rs 100/- if cargo is lost or damaged !!! Read on for the whole story. Two inexperienced people(in their late teens or early twenties) were incharge of the couriere centre that Sunday. They told me it would cost Rs 80 per kilo to send the TV from Bangalore to Pune.
I agreed trusting DTDC, eventhough another person from some xyz packers and movers agreed to deliver it for Rs1500/- One of DTDC courier guy from that franchise centre came to my house for picking up the TV. The way he was handling the TV made me feel that I have chosen the wrong people. Still I went ahead.
All packing done (lots of newspaper stuffed in just like that for safety!!! or was it called adding weight. Bubble wrapping is safe not newspaper to cushion fragile stuff)and he doesnt have a weighing machine at his office which can weigh more than 20KG. Now I had to help him carry it to another nearby shop to weigh the box. Total weight comes to 27 Kg.
He gives me the receipt for Rs 2160/- and assures delivery in 4 working days.Next day some one from their HO calls up and says that TV weight will be calculated on volumetric basis (41 KG) and I have to shell out another 1000 bucks . This pissed me off. I would have never booked that 4 year old color TV for Rs3000/- in the first place if I had known it earlier.
I had to tell him, thats not my problem , either you send it by paying the balance amount or send it back to my house. He disagreed for both. After a series of phone calls to their call centre all day, the franchise owner rudely says it will take 10-15 days for delivery!!!!!! After this I am able to see the status of my cargo on their website.
He had not even bothered to update the status number for more than 24 hours.I was not in a hurry. all I wanted was safe delivery, so I agreed. Cargo reached Pune 4 days later and my roommate picks it up, signs the delivery accepted in good condition sheet, without even checking the TV !!
When he opens the box, it had cracked from one side and smaller cracks on other side. He realised this 3 days after delivery. Even if he had checked it earlier, DTDC was liable to pay Rs100/-
Never trust DTDC. Their customer care is not co-operative, franchise guy speaks like a goon and your fragile cargo is not in safe hands. I even doubt he must have dropped the box a couple of times as he had to shell out some extra money from his pocket to deliver the cargo !!!!!!!
