I had the opportunity to fly through DXB while flying on my annual vacation.I am sure everyone whos reads a lot of magazines and TV would have surely heard about or read about the rapid strides by the UAE in general and Dubai in particular with respect to infrastructural developments ...........well....on the approach into dubai ....the 1st thing that gets to ur eye is like almost 20 ( no I aint exaggerating..thats 20 at least ) cranes .....so its like the whole city including the airport is one BIG construction site......
The first thing that struck me was like ... am I in some space ship or an airport....the use of glass and steel ......allows natural sunlight to enter the terminal from above ..and the whole building is amazingly well-lit and superbly maintained...
I arrived in the afternoon on my inward journey and the airport in itself was quiet and not much going on except for the occasional announcements in arabic and english about flight arrivals/departures and the no-smoking policy . However..on my return leg...I came like close to midnight and ..it was like heavily crowded.
The airport duty free is pretty good ...and the gold palm trees in between with the luxury cars in the center, electronic goods, perfumes......though the ones in qatar and bahrain are also similarly equipped at present. The staff at the airport also were pretty polite and helpful to all passengers in terms of assisting passengers who had connecting flights or had other problems.
The most hilarious thing that happened was , I was standing in the boarding area and there were like two american ladies who were visiting dubai for the 1st time and had taken great troubles to learn basic arabic in the US and wanted to badly speak to someone in arabic....they tried asking the four girls at the counter ..does that arabic board say J&*^LK...the girls(all local keralites) go blank and reply back ...we speak malayalam ..lolll........I have never seen soo many keralites ..its like they are running the whole airport......
A brand new terminal is being built I hear... and Emirates has placed another record order for aircraft ...so I am sure ....more and more visitors would be coming down and also get to see what dubai has to offer.
