Dubai, The City of Gold is a place to make money and a wonderful place is what most Asians feel BUT its NOT. If you belong to this category, I am SORRY. I very well appreciate Amritas review on discrimination. It’s true & excellent and I am quite sure that Anupama would not like our comments.
Moreover I have a personal grudge over that place... While I was doing my undergraduate in Dubai with a foreign university, I had a research project and had to go to the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI). The kind of interest they showed was pathetic. They ignored me and soon realised that I was wasting time. With the help of a British student, I reach DCCI at 11:00 AM the next morning and I was amazed. I was provided with all the information I needed...
This is one main reason for me to hate the place...Stunningly racist.
Eventually as I decided to leave UAE and move to the UK, I had to go to the Immigration to cancel my Visa... this time the officials behaviour seemed worst. It was my mistake to have approached the wrong department and as I enquired them their answer was YELLA, NOT HERE... U GO THERE’ (as if I stole 1 million Dirhams from them)...But Where??? For an innocent question as this, I had a wonderful answer... wanna know??
It was U don’t know where??? Then why u come? I no help you... well! Eventually after an hour of wandering and waiting in queue I finished with my cancellation and that was the day I decided I would never prefer Dubai again.
Though my parents live in Dubai working in high positions... I will not to go to Dubai again. Working in Bahrain for over 3 years now, I prefer Bahrain to be the right place for me.... What an amazing country it is...People are diplomatic and respect us for our culture and knowledge.
Alright! Accepted... Dubai is a cosmopolitan city... but whatz the use to stay and work there when you arent respected?? Working atmosphere is not professional and most organisations are bureaucratic. Salary wise you are not well paid until and unless you are white skinned or holder of American/European passport. Job wise you do the work but the credit goes to the Department in charge who turns out to be a white skinned fellow. So no job satisfaction or job security.
Social Life as such is ok if you are willing to spend which often is expensive. Most people have no time to waste as life is much busier..
Today being a qualified marketer, I have a couple of offers from Dubai, but do you think Ill consider??? Absolutely, NO CHANCE.
I am quite sure that other people might have their own opinion about the place but I don’t recommend DUBAI to anyone. Infact often I ask my parents to visit me here in London or in Bahrain.
But one thing! I learnt a lot of GOOD BAD HABITS... Smoking & Drinking to ease my pressure off... Good Ain it???
Well! If anyone is planning to move to Dubai, All I can do is... WISH THEM... GOOD LUCK!
