I read what you had to say about Dubai and the people here, the arabs, the Indians. Although this is the ’Travel Review Forum’ I just want to set the record straight. I am not speaking for all, I am just here to tell you like it is. And this is not a ’’Hate Speech’’.
I am an Indian and I have been living in Dubai all my life (25 years), I was born and brought up here.
I have to tell you about the racial discrimination that goes on here. The way Indians are treated. The unjust ways of the Arabs. I have been through a lot in these years.
We are looked down upon by the Arabs. They think we are worthless. They think we are slaves. They see us as poor, uncultured people. We get paid peanuts for the same job any other nationality would do. Go to any office in the UAE and if the person sitting at the front desk happens to be an Arab, they dont even want to look up at you. They wont even have a smile on their face when they deal with an Indian (except when they need something from you).
Yes, we are here only to work and yes, we are outsiders to this country but we ARE humans. We deserve to be respected and understood.
We gave this country a lot. We taught you (Arabs) what you know today. We took care of your country for you. We helped you start the trade and the economy that exists today. You have borrowed a lot from us, our culture, our cuisine, our knowledge. And in return we just want respect, is that too much to ask? Nobody deserves to be treated this way. You shouldnt be treated this way by anyone, not even by your enemies.
I admit we have poor, unfortunate Indians but we also have the ultra rich and every other class that comes in between, just like every other country in the world. We have the honest, we have the crooks, we have the intelligent and we have the fools. Just like every other country in the world.
We have great minds, We have intelligent people.
Over 75% of the doctors and surgeons here are Indians!!
Over 70% of the engineers (in all fields) here are Indians!!
Over 65% of the teachers and professors here are Indians!!
Over 80% of computer related engineers (programmers, support, technicians, administrators) are Indians!!
And just for your info, an Indian employed as a secretary would be paid approx AED. 3, 500/- or less while a UK citizen would be paid approx AED 8, 000/- or more for exactly the same job. Why is that? We are very intelligent, we work hard. We work more than what we are paid for.
And then lets talk about some of the many restrictions and ’rules’ here.
When an Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi decides to leave his/her job, he/she will get a release and a ’’no entry ban’’ for six months to one year on his/her passport.
An Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi has to be SSLC passed to be eligible for an Employment Visa. This does not apply to the other nationalities, for some wierd reason!??!
Why does it all exist? What have we done to deserve being treated like this?
