Jai Ma Durga !!

Adi Kanaka Durgamma Devi is a Durga temple located at Bellary, Karnataka. the temple opens at 9:30 am in the morning with a bhavya aarti. the temple is closed between1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and the finally closed at 7:30 pm in the evening with another aarti. Kanaka Durga Temple is synonymous with Vijayawada.

And is located in the heart of Vijayawada city, with a local market offering a range of items just adjacent to the temple. the temple is just a 10 minutes drive from the railway station and we easily got a local transport cab for the temple. our guide told us that this is the place where Arjuna obtained the Pasupatha astra after his great penance for Lord Shiva.

The temple was constructed for Goddess Durga by Arjuna. the road unto the temple is a winding ghat road after which you have to climb a few steps to reach the main temple. inside is a big idol of Goddess Durga which our guide told us is Svayambhu meaning self manifested and hence the locals and devotees consider it very powerful and say it fulfils all your wishes.

The idol is an eight armed form of Goddess Durga and an epitome of beauty in the standing posture over the demon Mahishashura and piercing him with her trident. some devotees also have a dip in the Krishna river and consider it a holy ritual. the temple has great spiritual significance and attracts a lot of pilgrims round the year specially during Navratrti and Dussehra. the Saraswati Pooja during this time is attended by thousands of devotees. the locals are very friendly and helpful. a very easily accessible temple and a must visit to seek Goddess Durga’s blessings.
