All over the world, Dus was an anticipated movie by one and all! All sorts of audiences felt pumped up for the movies release on Friday, July 8, for the most part! They had ample reasons, at least 10 of them (DUS BAHANE) to go for it. Quickly to name them: 1. The title song itself 2. The stylish promos 3. Stylish promotion 4. Choreography of all songs 5. Sanjay Dutts recent good form (hits like Musafir, Parineeta) 6. Some hot girls 7. Thrill element 8. Canadian Connection 9. Anticipation over a candy floss entertainment director (Anubhav Sinha) making his action movie debut 10. Last but NOT THE LEAST, none other than ABHISHEK BACHCHAN, the guy rocks, period! There is no way that you can malign him after watching this movie. His detractors can sit back and eat their bitter words from a few years back that hell never be a big star...lolx...look at him ppl...dont u imagine SRK jumping at his home seat and yet sticking to the one in the award functions as he might not have to get up and collect many in future...well watch this movie and ull be rest assured that the above 9 reasons are as good as Abhishek alone!!!
Now for the review. Dus is simply not a gem of a movie. Its plain mediocre for a normal cinegoer! Yet, when one talks about a specific type of viewer, the whole picture kind of changes...the whole perspective inverts!!! Numero uno, this movie is not made for Yashraj loving audiences (Barring Dhoom which was Yashrajs superb action debut)...it is rather made for guys who love action and thrillers. Perhaps even if you hate terrorism but yet like action, you might end up liking this one because it beats the likes of Qayamat and THE HERO to become an action thriller which presents terrorism in a tolerable manner!!! So to come back to the REAL point, Dus caters mainly to action loving audiences. In fact as soon as I entered the cinema I noticed that a whole section of the audience seemed to be YOUTH, mostly guys yet a lot of girls (mainly for Abhishek I guess since hes REAL popular NOW)!!! Therefore even if youre not a big fan of even pure ACTION movies, you can still connect with DUS if youre an Abhishek fan like me, you really have no chance of coming out of the screening disappointed!
As for the story, many know I hate revealing it. Many mouthshut viewers have already done it, and well me doing it would just be repeating the history and adding myself to the list of people who totally spoil the fun for others! Come on reviewers, readers come here for comments on the content...not to be exposed to the story!!!
Direction wise Anubhav Sinha can still do better. Objectively, overall Tum Bin was a still better movie at least content wise than Dus, especially considering that it had all new comers as opposed to the mega starcast of DUS. So Anubhav still has a long way to go before entering the elite list of Bolly directors. Yet, DUS isnt a step in the wrong direction. He has extracted decent performances from almost everyone and besides that really in a flick like this a lot cant be expected from the director. However one has to say that the climax couldve been carried off better (I wont give it away though as some people have already given their stupid alternate endings!)
Music is chartbusting, foot-tapping, what NOT? DUS BAHANE is hot. All the guys out there would love to go out and dance to the tune just like Zayed and Abhishek. It seems so much fun. The number itself is selling the whole album though Cham se and Saamne Aate ho tum (not in the movie) can also be liked after a few listens. Choreography is of high quality in all the three songs that are placed in the movie!
Cinematography is brilliant as Canadian locales have been captured beautifully. Ofcourse thats the point of making a thriller...at least it should be high on style and at least you have to give DUS a DUS out of DUS (10 OUT OF 10) on that! Overall production values, costumes, promotion, all shows ample enthusiasm and spending of the makers. Thats the reason that the movie made did decently despite some negative reviews (THANKS TO AWESOME START ALL OVER)!
Performance-wise, two people rock the show, Pankaj Kapur and Abhishek Bachchan, in that order. Pankaj wasnt one of my DUS BAHANE coz he actually turned out to be a surprise packet for all audiences. One of his secret swears (watch out for the spoilerzzz) really draws a loud laugh, especially from the masses. His jokes are pretty commendable and so is his performance. Some awards for him surely this year please! Abhishek, as appreciated above, does adequately in the second meatiest role of the movie. He gets ample footage to show his comic and style timing to all his detractors who thought he was at times old fashioned. He uses his screen space to silence the doubters of his versitality by looking awesomely stylish and cracking some amazing jokes. He proves that hes certainly a promising hot property in the future. Yet one has to add that Sarkar reportedly has him in a more performance oriented role since in Dus he doesnt get to create amazing histrionics with the part he got. Yet all said and done, it was a pleasure to watch him in this movie and his fans (like ME) will surely get their moneys worth. Mouthshut members have been quite kind to his performance and rightly so, he for the most part deserves the attention that hes FINALLY getting!
Sanjay Dutt looks quite decent and stylish (rather than old as many moutshut members wrote). Sunil Shetty is adequate. In the emotional parts he is good although his past was very uncalled for in a thriller like this. Esha Deol hams to the hilt with her new look. She for the most part is relegated to the back, she deserves it though. In this movie she stands OUT as a major disappointment. Shilpa is ok. She has maintained a great figure yet not many of her massy fans would appreciate her in a cops role. Yet overall her role was slick and she did well with whatever bit she got. Raima looks like a doll but doesnt get a substantial role at ALL! Zayed Khan is okay for his comic parts throughout the movie, but the climax is where he disappoints and looks like a clown for the most part. His fans are sure not to be totally entertained by this ONE!
Man!!Diya Mirza, though not a lot of footage to her, is amazingly hot. She looks like a demsel every guy, like me, would want to have. Hats of Diya. You look great, how one wished you had a bigger role! Gulshan Grover is wasted.
Overall, Dus has a few loopholes, the biggest being that it only caters to a particular section of the audiences (action lovers). The rest might do with trashing it but for sure some jokes (by Pankaj), a decent performance in a different role by Abhishek, and ofcourse the outstanding (SONG OF THE YEAR MATERIAL) Dus Bahane can make it a worthwhile show for one and all. In a nutshell, dont miss it action lovers, and you may choose to trash it later (if you want to) MR. DETRACTORS! but dont skip it please. You might end up liking it like me...against all the negative reviews and criticism!!!
P.S.: Watch this movie in cinemas. That is where it takes its effect. Dont watch pirated, third rate quality version please! DUS doesnt deserve such a poor watch!
