A Chill Pill Style Flick

It was surprising to hear impassioned whistling in a plush Multiplex for it is considered to be the domain of single screen theatres in some downtown suburb. But I guess the reason for the rush of adrenaline was worth-it. Dus bahane kare ke…. This number absolutely rocks and so do the cool dude duo Abhishek Bachchan and Zayed Khan. And I must say that putting this scintillating number in the beginning was a great idea for this high-on-special-effects movie to work. At least partially.

Dus is a stylish flick with ample doses of hurricane chutzpah. The moment you see Sanjay Dutt leading a bunch of his sleuths to disarm a bomb, the message is loud and clear….It must be a remake of some Hollywood hit. I didn’t know which movie, though after reading the reviews later I came to know that it is a rip off of 24 Hours. Though I think it is ‘inspired’ by a number of films likeMatrix and Abhishek Zayed camaraderie on a bridge in Calgary surrounded by goons reminds you of Sholay.

After the chartbuster song, it is a thrilling site to view Shilpa Shetty kicking some real good Bass (Intended to use some other word, but I guess we are being ’censored’) with those bootilicious flying kicks while Zayed Khan ‘rocks’ whiel defusing a bomb with the flicker of his grin. And after a promising beginning the story unfolds. Sanjay Dutt is the head of Anti Terror Cell and he had intelligence reports that on the tenth of the same month, a big-gun terrorist Jamwaal is going to carry out a terrorist operation that shall kill over twenty thousand people. Now with a style flick that is so urban in its approach one just can’t associate a villain name like ‘Jamwaal’ which strictly reminds you of silly Chunky Pandey films of eightees that nobody really watched. Anyways…

Within half an hour, you should realize that there’s no story. Yes, there’s lots of style but the special effects performed on the editing table tend to get very repetitive and irritating after a point of time. The Art is…Not to overdo the good things lest one becomes used to them. Abhishek And Zayed are packed off to Canada to get the dope on Jamwaal. After a flurry of high flying (And well executed stunts), they nab a Jamwaal crony Pankaj Kapoor (The best part of the movie and an able comic relief)….And when they think that they have finished off Jamwaal, they come to know that he is still alive and kicking….

The end is predictable and stale. Though the last few frames are brilliantly lit up by the charm of Abhishek Bachchan. This man really took his failure to his heart. He is simply rocking in this film. And so does Zayed Khan. This guy has a great future. Take my word for that. He redefines the word “Cool”. Girls get ready to drool! Sunil Shetty is wasted and Sanjay Dutt is fine. As for the girls, well….Shilpa Shetty is slick and glam with loads of substance while Esha Deol is more of a good body than anything else.

There’s nothing much to say about the direction of Anubhav Sinha other than saying that I liked his touch in Tum Bin. Here he is too dependant on exotic locales, an ensemble cast and some good songs. But he has talent and should trust his emotions more than what the crowd wants.

Dus….Just Chill…..While it lasts!
