Bought this player from Metro, mainly because I was impressed by the 3ivx certification and the patents owned by DVS. I did a check on US patents site with the patent numbers given at the back of the player, and all the patents are genuine, which can hardly be said of even LG or Samsung. I think others like Onida have no patents at all. I checked the DVS website https://dvselectronics.com and it seemed a professional company, not like the smaller indian ones.
Easy to use product, and nice aesthetics also. Not like the glitzy awful chinese products from most other companies. Complements my Home theatre amp very well in size and finish. DTS Digital works, so does Dolby 5.1, only reason I dont give it a 5 is there is no Dolby Prologic in my version of the player. I asked DVS office in bangalore, and was told it has been discontinued by the chipset manufacturer (very nice people to interact with, by the way). Picture when connected in S Video is very good. GUI is simple and clean, very nice. It reads quite fast, and plays my 1000 mp3 one one disc with no problems. DivX, XviD absolutely no problems, nor with pirated or scratched CDs. However, I feel the remote control is a little badly designed, the stop button is too big and seems in the wrong place. Minor glitch however.
I take good care of my player, but I still have no doubt this player could take a bit of hammering, the quality seems good, and so does the paint and finish. I paid Rs 3800 for the player, I think the prices have come down, and I am more than happy with the player. This player gives me quality, exclusivity and value for money in one package. I like to be different, but not stupidly so, and this is the right product for me.
