Ebay, one of the biggest name in the e-com industry and it lures buyers through their "buyer protection program called Ebay Guarantee". Ebay Guarantee is suppose to protect the buyer when it comes to genuine disputes related to false claims made by seller or in the event of buyer getting cheated by the seller.
But on ground when it actually comes to resolving claims, the ebay experience is the worst in the Industry currently. (e-com sites like Jabong, Myntra, Flipkart are doing a better job) Most likely Ebay will ensure that either your claim is dropped or settled in favour of the seller.
I used to advocate ebay over any other e-com player until the 1st time my product was different from the one described by the seller.(Claim:467070). In spite of the seller agreeing on ebay messaging that he sent me a different product which was previously used and following up with ebay for 1 month, ebay without replying to emails declined my claim.
Some of the Issues you will typically face with Ebay:
No dedicated customer care email id.
Long holds when you try to reach them through their helpline 1800 209 3229.
Arrogant customer service agents.
No response to your emails by their " Claim Adjusters" (People nominated by ebay to address your disputes /claims).
Constant attempts to drop your claims for small small reasons.
An approach biased towards protecting seller than the buyer.
No return shipping arrangement.
In case buyer returns the product by paying for shipping, ebay returns shipping cost through ebay coupons unlike other sites which issue DD/Cheque. (Buyer paying for return shipping rarely arises with other sites, as most sites arrange for return pick themselves).
International sellers registered on ebay.in (Indian ebay) for whom ebay India does NOT take any responsibility for anything.
My experience gave me an impression that Indian police does a better job in reporting FIRs than Ebay.in team does at reporting claims to their higher-ups. It also looks to me that they run an aggressive internal incentive policy to NOT to pass any claims, no matter how genuine they are.
Overall its quite disappointing to experience the ebay shopping experience and this anyone will realize the day when any product dispute arises(which is very likely to happen on internet shopping). I would recommend buyers to stick to other websites rather than giving ebay an opportunity to rob them off their hard earned money.
