The hollywoodesque promos of Ek Ajnabee were very interesting with Amitabh Bachchan looking like a rock star. I feel, grey hair suits him more (Sarkaar and now Ek Ajnabee). This movie belongs completely to Amitabh Bachchan, take him out and you have a pretty mediocre film. Here is how the film goes:
A Thailand - based business tycoon (Vikram Chatwaal) and his wife (Perizaad Zorabian)want a security guard for their young daughter (Rucha Vaidya). Arjun Rampal who is in Thailand calls his friend Amitabh Bachchan (an ex army major with a drinking problem) for the job. However, Amitabh doesn’t know he has to guard a young girl. The girl tries to befriend him but to no avail as Amitabh, whose had a traumatic experience with kids doesn’t want to befriend her. But, the persistant girl with her charm and innocence bowls him over and Amitabh gradually develops a fondness for her. But, just when all’s well the poor girl is kidnapped and then killed. As mentioned Amitabh rocks. The metrosexual Arjun Rampal doesn’t have much to do. Other adult actors are just about average. But, the real scene stealer is the little girl Rucha. She could well be our very own Dakota Fanning.
The film which has been shot in Thailand is very stylish, though I wish it had more substance in it. Watch it for Bachchan!!!
