Hasina's Revenge

The other day a FM radio jockey was joking, ’’Is it possible that people start admiring Tussar Kapoor after 6 years..as Saif has become Hot Cake after a streak of totally forgetable series of flops over a decade..’’, miracles do happen. Saif has totally arrived and with this one he announces to critics ’’Here I am, dare write trash about me’’.

’’Ek Hasina thi’’ has nothing great to boast on the story front, but the treatment is good and the lead pair elevates a sleek movie to a higher level. Director picks its scene treatments from umpteen hollywood hits but are noval to the Hindi cinegoers and a direct ’inspiration’ from any film is not visible.

’’Ek Hasina thi’’ tells the story of Sarika Vartak (Urmila) working in Mumbai for a Travel Agency. She is woed by the dashing globetrotter Karan (Saif) who introduces himself as a person into shares and finance. Sarika gets framed and then jailed as she is fabricated into being part of underworld, all thanks to Karan. When she realises that Karan totally took her for a ride, what she beleived love was deceit, its too late. She plans revenge, breaks out of jail with the help of jail mates, but only after learning some tough lessons in jail.

Rest of the story is about how she takes revenge from Karan.

The movie is fast paced and does not have typical flaws which indian thrillers always have.

The debutant director Sriram Raghavan has done a great job, he makes a songless, realistic movie a commerical one and their lies his success.Watch out for him.

Urmila is great, she essays her role with the finesse` it demands. Luckily she doesnot overreact as if it was a women oriented revenge movie.

Saif, does a awesome job, he is mean, villianish, bad, worse without clinching his teeth, frowning his eyebrows, neither he needed to belt out filthy overbaked abuses and dialogues to show the evil in him. He proves he can easily carry a movie on his shoulders.

Background Score is a plus. Gives the mood and appeal to the movie.

On the flip side, movie could be easily trimmed by 15-20 minutes in the second half.

RGV Factory unleashes a polished product, recommended.
