I have been a VVC fan since Khamosh(1986) and Parinda(1989). After that Mission Kashmir and 1942 ALS were ok but nothing close to standards set be Parinda.
I had mammoth expectations from Eklavya just because of VVC working with AB sr. first time. I was quite sure that I am going to watch something that has never happened before on bollywood silver screen. I expecting something close to Parinda. On very first day I purchased ticket worth Rs.190 for 11:00 PM show at Inox Pune.
I am not going to reveal the plot in this review. When the movie ended I asked myself was that really worth?. no. I was heavily disappointed with this over-hyped product.
Here I try to give some facts:
Amitabh was great as always but nothing extra-ordinary. Now the hardcore AB fans will have to wait for Nishabd.
Saif Ali Khan was good but his performance can not be compared to Langda Tyagi of Omkara in any way.
If you expect some mind blowing scenes by Boman Irani better stay away from this movie.
Sanjay Dutt has a very small but meaty role. I wish if VVC had taken full advantage of this character.
When the movie is over you never get clue exactly what VVC wanted to convey with this film. Definitely a confused script should be blamed for this flaw.
Eklavya is an excellent product in technical terms… so is every other big bollywood movie these days. At most I would rate it as a average film.
Now I understand that why VVC depended on publicity gimmicks like Rolls Royce and non-stop interviews. I good film will always work on word of mouth.
I predict that Eklavya will see a heavy drop in collections from 19th Feb onwards.
