Come aboard for a dragon ride....

Christopher Paolini is at it again. After his hugely successful ERAGON (yes, read my review on this too), he has returned with the second part of this trilogy called the INHERITANCE TRILOGY.

PLOT SUMMARY

This book is a book of fantasy, including magic and magical creatures. For those people who have been living under a rock, Eragon is a teenager who had his life transformed when a dragon hatched for him and he became a dragon rider.

In the first book’s conclusion, Eragon has just killed his dangerous enemy, Durza, the shade. At the start of the second book, he is still in Farthen Dur, the headquarters of the Varden (rebels protesting against the evil king Galbatorix.). However, the leader of the Varden dies, and a new leader has to be selected. Eragon starts of as one of the strongest candidates after his battle with Durza, but Nassuada is elected with eragon’s permission since he himself does not want to indulge in politics at this stage.......

Eragon goes to Oromis , a former rider, to complete his training which had been left incomplete after the death of Brom . Here, he sees something which he had never expected yo see: another dragon living free other than Saphira. However, the fight with Durza has taken its toll on Eragon as he has to endure regular back spasms due to the Shade’s blows on his back. Eragon does an admirable job nonetheless but is distracted by his feelings for Arya , a princess of the elves.

Just as his injuries are beginning to get the better of Eragon, he is mysteriously and magically cured by the two dragons in the vicinity. Now, Eragon is quicker and more agile than before. Also, with his increased knowledge of magic, he is able to fight and kill more easily.

But he is suddenly beckoned on to the field of battle! Galbatorix’s army has now decided to challenge the Varden and battle is inevitable. The Varden manage to hold off their enemies but Eragon’s life is changed forever........ I am not disclosing the reason for this since I do not want to spoil the suspense..............

Eragon’s brother, Roran , is also being hunted by Galbatorix. The situation becomes so bad that roran and the rest of his hometown, Carvahall have to leave their homes and flee for their lives. Their journey is captivating, interesting and awesome to read. I personally prefer the Roran part to the Eragon part in this book. Roran goes from an oordinary lad to fierce warrior as he and the rest of the villagers are forced to kill others to survive...... In an engrossing tale, these brave villagers cross forests and seas and survive whirlpools and attacks to save their skin. Brilliant plot!

SAPHIRA, ERAGON’s DRAGON

In this book, Saphira gains a sense of humour to with her awesome valour. She becomes more intelligent and wise after her training and seems ready to fight even Galbatorix and his dragon. But she is still not perfect........

Her realtionship with Eragon becomes more exciting than ever before. The two share a very good rapport throughout the book, sometimes bringing out the irony of life and sometimes showcasing honour and bravery.

GO BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU LIKED ERAGON
