Before I begin my review, id suggest this to everybody reading this review - DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. It malfunctions every 6 months(you will incur expenditure of around 4K every 6 months after buying a machine worth 15K), and the after sales support service is non existent.
We purchased the Electrolux EW1045F Washing Machine in January 2005. We were given a warranty of 1 year alongwith it.
Within 8 months, the timer malfuctioned. After checking the machine, the technician told us that the timer would have to be replaced and that we would have to spend 4.5K on the machine. Incase you noticed, we were asked to pay for the replacement of parts while the warranty was valid. After duly signing the warranty slip of 1 year duration, these idiots at electrolux took a U turn and told us that the warranty was valid only for 6 months for some unfathomable reason. I mean, would you expect a multinational company to first give you 1 year warranty and then say "oh no sorry sir, the warranty was for 6 months only, I thought you were illiterate and didnt know that 6 months= 1 year."
Left with no alternative, we approached the concerned consumer forum, and within no time, we had calls from Electrolux asking us to withdraw the complaint as they would replace the malfunctioning parts. After a month of frantic phone calls/trips to the electrolux service centre/consumer forum, they replaced our timer without any charge. The Hindi proverb "Laat ke bhoot baat se nahin mante" holds good here. However the timer they put in our machine looked anything but new.
Now, in February 2007, the timer has malfunctioned again. This time not only the timer, but also the belt and a couple of other parts have malfunctioned. This clearly illustrated that the timer which was put in our machine was of inferior quality!(As if we didnt know it) The service engineer says that we will have to spend around 7K on the machine. And guess what? This time, they claim that they do not have any spare parts. "Sorry sir, the spare parts of this machine are not available." I doubt you will ever see such lousy after sales service from a company like electrolux. Do you want to know what suggestion the esteemed company has for us? "BUY ANOTHER ELECTROLUX TOP LOADING MACHINE IN EXCHANGE FOR YOUR EXISTING MACHINE." Why on earth should we spend more on Electrolux products which seem to give everyone so many problems? BAD quality, BAD durability, WORST After sales service, NO accountability, NO Customer Serivce. So, effectively they are telling us, "Your first machine was crappy, so after it isnt worth using anymore, spend a bit more on Electrolux products so that this vicious cycle never ends, keep spending on our products."
We are now planning to approach the consumer courts and claim compensation/Replacement of the machine.
If you buy an electrolux product, you are digging your own grave.
