EMI - The name of the movie speaks volumes of the Quality of the movie. EMI was a Sanjay Dutt movie after the dismal Kidnap. What Sanju Baba missed with Kidnap, does it with EMI.
Let’s get to the plot of the movie:-
EMI is about different characters, A Night Club DJ Ryan ( Arjun Rampal ), is into credit cards. He swipes them against cash and also has a Loan running which he is unable to pay, however he doesnt have the intentions too.
Anil and Swati ( Ashish Ch and Neha Uberoi ) are a couple who get indulged in loans ( car, home, electronics, travel, personal ) name any kind of Loan and they have it. They split after marriage and since then have not been paying the loans.
Chandrakant ( Kulbhushan Kharbanda ) takes up a study loan for his son who wanted to study in London. The Son fails in profession and hence he has no money to pay.
Prenra’s ( Urmila ) husband killed himself when he was under debt and Prerna herself was under a lot of debt.
Come in Sattar Bhai ( sanjay Dutt ) who from a senior bhai learns that if he wants to become a politician, he needs to learn to give respect to others and solve other’s problems. Now a Recovery Agent by profession, Sattar Bhai starts helping all the people in the film come over of thier personal problems. The problems get sorted out and the EMIs start coming in.
Now Ever wondered how this story is treated ?? A wanna be Munnabhai for sure, Where Sanju Baba plays the Good hearted bhai, who is so emotional about other’s personal lives.
The Movie just drags and drags and drags, the characterizations take helluva a lot of time. Come in Sanjay Dutt and the movie provides some releif, until the ending. The ending is so hastily done that you wont even expect that its gonna end now. The treatment to the subject is as wafer thin as the plot and the movie fails to click in every department.
Performances
The cast has done well barring malaika Arora, She cant act for a living for sure.
Neha Uberoi looks pretty and does her part well. Rest of the cast is ok.
But the Life and Soul of the film is Sattar Bhai, Sanjay Dutt. He has done this earlier but still it looks good on him and all the hilarious moments are Sanjay Dutt’s. Hadnt it been for baba, EMI would have been in KARZ.
Overall - The movie is disappointing and that is showing by its collections. EMI just like installments is good in parts, though a major chunk of it goes unpaid. Watch EMI for Sanju Baba, else dont bother.
