Delayed flight passengers handled with disdain

I recently travelled with my daughter Delhi- London- Delhi. We took the flight from Gatwick on the 14th of January and reached Dubai at 8:45 pm local time. Our connecting flight to Delhi was scheduled at 10:10 pm. To our shock we found that our flight to Delhi had been rescheduled to 6:30 am. When we went to the transfer desk there was a long queue of passengers waiting there. Only 2 counters were manned and they were taking a long time to attend to each passenger.


The staff was chatting on their mobile phone while passengers were waiting to be attended. There were some passengers in that queue who were also travelling to Delhi. We overheard the conversation that the staff had with a passenger in the queue in front of us. He was an old gentleman who was requesting the staff to give him a hotel room. He informed the staff that he had a slip disk and hence was on medication for the pain. He was therefore pleading with them for a room but she very rudely told him that no room could be given. The demeanour of the staff was very callous.


Finally after trying the gentleman left. It was our turn next. I requested her to put my daughter and me on an earlier Emirates flight  (EK510 ) as she had to go back to her boarding school. She rudely said and I quote "the weather in your country is bad what can I do. I cant put you on the earlier flight.


I don’t know if there are any seats on it. Go up and wait." Not once did she empathise with any of the passengers. Several of the passengers including ladies with babies had been travelling from the U.S. I fail to understand how this airline can win any awards. We went to departures and waited. After 9 long uncomfortable hours finally we were ready to board. After we boarded and the captain announced that we were ready to take off we heaved a sigh of relief.


But ten minutes later the captain announced that some passengers were not taking the flight hence there would be a further delay of 15-20 minutes. After another 20 minutes the captain announced that as the duty time of the crew had come in a new crew would be coming to man the flight and hence all passengers would have to wait on the aircraft for another 1.5 to 2 hours before the flight could leave. We just waited on board the aircraft. The crew did not serve any food or drink nor attend to passenger calls. Finally after a long.
